  1. Thats good news. It is a fact that for earlier Cars they could either need a 211 rib cam belt or a 210 rib cam belt. I recall counting the teeth when my mechanic was going to change the belt to be sure I'd been supplied with the correct one. (It was either 210 0r 212 can't quite remember) but one tooth would make a difference as said earlier in this thread.
  2. If its from your Car its possibly Post the problem being recognised, although this is dated 2006. Clip from a Merc forum. May or may not be able to find the name on the Rad. #2 • Aug 10, 2010 FAULTY RADIATOR COOLER TANKS Causes transmission failure According to Mercedes Benz Star Bulletin #P-B 27.55/50f, dated March 24, 2006, there is a problem with Valeo radiators up to production date 9/2003 installed in models:
  3. Possibly, but had hopes it would be any time now. Not looking like it, as per todays news and quarantine for Daughter on return a no-no. MOT until January 21 so better be before then or i'm stuffed and expensive recovery. fingers crossed.
  4. Covid related - presumably? No travel - no tax. Save a few squid. Had to tax mine as may one day be able to retrieve it from France? First time I've only put 6 months on it!
  5. No, the Trannie fluid goes in and out of the Radiator via the bottom seperate pipe connectors. I had the flexi pipes changed a couple of years back. The Rad seemed OK but you can't tell. Rust can happen on the inside which is more of a disaster than outside. The pipe connector fell off (rusted through) my Merc W140 just as I was about to enter my drive, one day. Total loss of gearbox use. Fortunately water didn't enter the gearbox so replaced Rad etc and all was fine. It was a '96 Car and Valeo longevity problems stem from about that time to early 2000's, I believe. If you see something different on your Car, someone may have put in an independent cooler for towing or safety purposes.
  6. I'll steer clear of Tesla's and other Supercars and their drivers. Check out the link - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0LidF1gF3YQ
  7. 0-60 in 2.3 seconds - these are Breakers Yard Cars in the UK. The most dangerous car on the road? Insurance must be astronomical. Watched a vid of some young blogger with not quite such a sleek one - put it into reverse by mistake at the power point - crunch. Easily done it would seem.
  8. Nissens a good reputation. I've had a Nissens replacement for my Lexus sat in a Box for three years now. Unsure if after 27 years (should the Car come back from France) it would be wise to put it in. I've seen the result of the Auto box to rad connecting pipe falling away with rust. Was it on a Valeo, perhaps?
  9. In the old days, you might have put in Holts Radweld. I'd avoid Valeo as a brand. They were responsible for a few issues back in the day....
  10. Hi Malc, Good Question. Got parts on Order. OEM from Amayana and possible OEM (or copy) from another source. Expect to receive in a weeks time, I imagine. Wheel-less, I've bought a Toyota Corolla T Spirit 2003 to be able to ferry Wife, Son and Daughter to France when permitted, and will do the job and get the Lexus back, the Daughter returning with the Corolla. Thats the fiendish plan! The Wallet is a lot lighter after arranging Tax, Insurance, new Tyres, Water pump and Serpentine belt. Just got to use my left leg - Got a bit out of the habit - Oh well.
  11. Is it possible to tape over the light which on the LS400 is reflected onto the screen from under the Dash panel moulding? Would be a naughty thing to do but imagine someone will have tried it in the past to hide a fault. Or am I talking rubbish?
  12. The bad news is the passenger side is almost an impossible place to get to undo the bolts. I only replaced the drivers side last yea for that reason.
  13. Hi Paul, Did you get the Bushes and the Bolts? Be interested to know what the part numbers are for those as only show a single first code on the exploding diagram I've seen. Let me know how difficult you find the job. Thanks Stuart
  14. Just a little piece of extra info. Checking my cars history the two rear Strut bars Bushes were a fail fault in 2013. I suspect the Bushes were replaced but not the Struts as the Bushes look passable. I bought the Car in April 2014. No advisory since. Will replace all parts both sides, covid permitting a return to France in September/October. Check your struts guys. Car was moveable but reckon it threw the steering when going very slowly (fortunately)
  15. Yes I'm bit miffed that it was not spotted at MOT time just over a year ago, or the previous year. I always act to replace anything needing it, but don't live with my face under the Car. Don't mind doing repairs up top but not keen to get down and dirty as Eric the Car guy would say. Better photo to show what the part is. I suspect its a hollow tube. Japan on Obon Holiday so unable to put in order for parts until the 17th. Nice idea the Japanese, a holiday to remember the Ancestors. All we see are stupid marches and poor carnivals in this Country.
  16. Back home - Car less. Won't bore everyone with the saga but some friends might not escape! Thanks all for concern. What to get as a temporary?
  17. LPD earliest supply of part Tie Rod/Strut rod part 48780-50010 is September. Can't find item on Rock as they will ship direct to France. Neighbour had a look and said part totally gone at hub end so weld not an option. Looking like carwill have to be garaged in France until. How to get home? Ryanair most prob. As can't stay here too long, ,meds running out. Doh!
  18. Thanks john, hoping that the spar (strut) which is designed to hold the wheel in true line, can be welded. It seems the bar or pis it pipe(?) has broken away at the Bush point. May not be possible without melting the Bush if done in situ, is my thinking. You were lucky to tell the tale.
  19. Lucky to be alive. Car rear hub strut arm failed at 20mph a mile from our place in France. Parked it 2 days back and 2nd time removing wheel found trailing arm to right of hub. Fatal? Any views? Nearby Garage we would have passed as on way to tip. Lovely English guy stopped and took our three large bags of rubbish to the tip and drove us back home in his van. My neighbour says garage is good and they speak English. Fear car is w/off???
  20. I should Cocoa ! A poor impoverished chap like me. The Mota dann the Mole Hole to la Belle Francais for a new experience! - As was the cost of this Pot holers delight! Quick to make up for their loss of income. Ferries no better. C'est la vie - Doh!
  21. I did manage to cut two pieces of Scaffolding tube one an inch long and the other four inches (or thereabouts) and my mechanic did the job with the parts I supplied. He still had to heat the hub area to extract the original bush using a blow torch to expand it.
  22. If I'm on the right track Andy (???) then you may want to also look at this thread where Ambermarine has posted photo's. If not, please let me know by reply as I have a tight schedule with holiday on the Horizon. Yippee! https://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/topic/121671-rear-hub-bush-sst-or-can-anyone-help/?tab=comments#comment-1108794
  23. Roy, you may want to read the below thread. It may apply and may not. Your symptoms are partially (shall we say) mentioned OBD2 not responding. If you don't have any running symptoms then it may not be the Capacitors. Do you know the history of your Car? Do you know if the ECU Capacitors have been changed? There are several threads on this forum as to where to go to have your ECU checked out and Capacitors replaced. It was a large expnse for me but others have had the work done for a fraction of what I paid. Someone else may discount this as being the possible problem, so take Heart. https://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls-1st-and-2nd-gen-1990-2000/656360-all-my-crazy-lexus-issues-solved-ecu-leaking-capacitor.html
