  1. Mine had a very patchy servicing history. I took it in for 100k service, timing belt change and MOT at official Lexus garage and once they fixed everything and did the checks, they offered me the extended warranty, £1000 for 2 years with recovery included.
  2. And I was about to ask if it was possible to hardwire it somewhere near rear view mirror... Would be neat though - no wires around A pillars etc.. Thanks for the warning!
  3. Noticed a few weeks ago that mine RX400h's passenger side headlamp started having condensation inside. Today it is raining heavy, so once I parked in the office garage and got out - noticed that my HID had gone off. Tried turning the headlight of and on a few times - HID came back up but flickering and not as bright as it should be (faintly blueish)... So I am assuming water is messing with the contacts... I have an extended warranty with Lexus - will try calling them up to see what they say.
  4. To store a setting in memory, hold both SET and "1" or "2" button together. You'll hear a beep. To restore make sure you're in park mode and just click "1" or "2' button. Simple :)
  5. Just a typo - probably meant to be 2006? Looks to be a well-cared for example.
  6. Good day, Someone might find my story informational - this is not a post to complain or anything. Maybe just to demonstrate how servicing costs can suddenly sky-rocket... Though it left me curious if I was taken for a ride? The guys at Lexus Edgware were so far nice and helpful - no complaints there. My RX400h just passed 100k on the odometer so I decided it needed to get serviced properly at an official Lexus shop. The official because timing belt needed changing as well - and I was thinking the official garage is the trustworthy place for this type of job. It also coincided with my MOT expiring - so booked for that one as well. Took it to Lexus Edgware (Jemca), since Twickenham (Currie Motors) do not provide the cheaper servicing option. Initial quote: £40 - MOT £399 - major service for 5+ year old cars (the value service as they call it) £395 - timing belt change = £734 Left it with them. Few hours later they emailed me a link to a vehicle-vision.com where they had a video uploaded (I have attached it here as well) demonstrating and explaining the discovered faults - with a quote and a button to approve the quote. The manager also called immediately to go over and explain everything etc. Quite a nice touch the online video and quote - did not expect that. The issues were: Rear driver side shock absorber leaking Both shock absorber gaiters (rubbers protecting them, part no. 48760-48040) torn/split. Initial quote: £1250+ for parts and labor. This is the part of the story that got me confused. During the call I looked up on lexus.co.uk the price for 5+ year old vehicles to replace "Rear Shock Absorbers" - it is £395. So I did suggest that we replace both - the manager did agree and it was (for some reason!) a cheaper option than replacing just one (???). New quote to do both shocks and gaiters: £915.42 (in addition to the £734) => ~£1650 Later, the car does not pass MOT and I get another call. The reason: one of rear brake calipers is stuck and did not pass the brake efficiency test. To replace it is £350 (single caliper) To try and loosen it: ~£165 (cost for an hours labor since everything needs removing to try that - according to the manager) I decide that replacing it might be a better option in case it will stick again. New total: £2099 The car is still with Lexus Edgware, going to pick it up tomorrow. After all these repairs it must be golden now! Any second opinions? I can't help just wondering how much less it could have cost at a local garage - especially given that car does have a patchy official servicing history with some gaps. Maybe was not worth going the "official" way. I also had already been putting aside some savings for this 100k service as I did expect a lot of expense - but twice less than that :) Lexus_vv-video-92717_(1).mp4
  7. That's how I take my MTB to Surrey Hills and around - taking off the front wheel too. Fits nicely - should be no probs to take two MTBs stacked on top of each other.
  8. Shaw RX, to be able to stream music via Bluetooth from your phone, you will need to get a Bluetooth receiver installed, i.e. connected to your car's audio system. I think this is what I would be looking at if I didn't already have it: GROM Audio BT3 (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Audio-Integrated-Bluetooth-older-TOYOTA/dp/B00GU1QUW0) Connecting the Layen device to the official Lexus iPod integration kit (that you've already got in the glove box) will not work, since the Lexus iPod kit is disguising itself as a CD changer and Layen device does not support that type of connection. On my car the setup is a bit different because I already had the Dension ice>Link Lite, which provides iPod/AUX-in integration - so all I needed to make it work was to buy a 30-pin iPod connection-compatible Bluetooth receiver and connect it to the Dension iPod 30-pin port. Hope that helps :)
  9. You will also find that locksmiths will not want to cut the "internet" keys as they call them (keys ordered from internet) citing various reasons, one among them being that metal is too soft and they can't provide guarantee (not sure how much of that is true). But they are usually happy to order the shell+blade from their suppliers and cut it. I paid £20 for the parts including cutting - pretty reasonable.
  10. Found you one on eBay to order from US: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2006-RX400H-DASH-SPEAKER-86160-0E030-/351170286987?hash=item51c361558b ~£41.66 + shipping of ~£20. Don't think customs will need to be paid.
  11. Well, it is not the grille that is spoiling the new RX - it is more the plastic arches and maybe rear lights. I would say, if not looking at the front of this car, from the rear it is now like a conclusion of a Qashqai and Hyunday x35 as someone said... Oh well. I also think that the new Audi Q7 front dashboard is much nicer, but the exterior is downright boring and ugly... Older Q7 looks way nicer! I guess I just like smooth shapes better than sharp ones...
  12. I have neither - and I would say ~26 in winter and ~29 in summer. I am driving in London, but I don't get stuck in traffic too often as I work outside the city - so I would imagine it is similar to country roads.
  13. I hope they get rid of those plastic wheel arcs... they cheapen every vehicle.
  14. Backlights - gen 2 as the guys are saying. Front - gen 3 the 2012 facelift F Sport grille - I would love one with red leather seats... but it is ~50k for now...
  15. One has to remember that RX 400h came out in 2005 with the last model of this generation being made in 2008 - bluetooth music streaming was not, well, mainstream yet with the first popular smartphone (iPhone) having come out just in 2007. And car manufacturers do lag behind in implementing latest technology in their cars - usually. So no surprise bluetooth music (A2DP) wasn't a standard at the time. But iPod integration became shortly available via dealerships - so you could explore the option of getting the iPod integration kit and buying a cheap old generation iPod with enough storage - this way you can even use steering wheel buttons to switch between playlists and songs and their names will be displayed in the small CD/RADIO LCD. Luckily I already had the kit installed, so I got cheap iPod nano (3rd generation) 4GB for £25 and it is good enough even nowadays. Later discovered that I had Dension ice>Link Lite installed too - which too had iPod/AUX to FM antenna direct cable integration. This way I bought LAYEN® i-DOCK Bluetooth 4.0 Music Receiver Adapter (http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00CMBKR58) for the 30pin Apple connection - and now I can stream music from my Android phones via Bluetooth too. So, explore the options :) Cheers
  16. Quite affordable: http://www.gromaudio.com/compare.html Another option: http://shop.dension.com/
  17. Ditto, same here - seeing the same behavior in this cold weather - petrol engine kicks in almost immediately after pulling away, so I assume it is normal for temperatures near zero celsius.
  18. The updated navigation disk will not change your firmware - it stays the same albeit with potential minor differences - it is only the map navigation data that is updated to the latest version. I too initially was expecting it to update the UI etc. to something better looking, but it wasn't the case :)
  19. No, I actually got rid of the RX about 14 months ago Just had a spare set of wheels in the garage... Oh right - what did you go for?
  20. Wow - very kind of you! Did you get something non-standard for your RX?
  21. I had it on a couple occassions light up - well, 3 times in total since buying the car in May 2014. First time it was when picking up the car from dealer after valeting and detailing - right before trying to drive off the "Check VSC" message came up and engine wouldn't start. The auxillary battery apparenlty had discharged while car was being cleaned that same day - car had all doors open, probably radio playing etc. and was not in "READY" mode - engine would not be started to re-charge battery - so dealer's explanation seems plausible. Another two times each time when it would light up I would freak out, yes - but then would just turn off engine and back on again - then it would light up again. Another anxious moment. Then repeated off an on - all back to normal. Not sure the battery problem this time, since car was driven earlier same day both times.
  22. Just take it to the local paintshop/alloy refurbishers and they should be able to paint them for you. That's what I did to my RX400h - though did not go for red, but just gunmetal grey.
  23. Yeah, I get that mellow "drilling" fel effect now and then, but I don't mind it anymore - could say even enjoy it sometimes. I guess it is to do more with CVT than engine itself - or a link between both.
  24. Oh yes - I had something similar, but with one of rear passenger doors - it would not lock, but a stuttering sound could be heard. The cables/actuator was out of place - but it is very easy to fix if that is the case. Remove the door panel, put the actuator into the correct position and put everything back. There is a video on youtube showing how door panel can be removed.
