  1. seems unlikely to be the glass or element, as usually you just loose a few strips if it has been snagged. It's worth checking if you are getting 12v at one end of the element.... and that the connector is bonded to the glass. Also, to help trace wires, you can download good wiring diagrams from Lexus (3 Euro for an hour browsing)... but I'd expect one of the side pillar covers will just pop off to reveal enough you can trace it Are you sure the wiring runs in the headlining?.... (I expect it runs along the skirting (either top or bottom) I broke the wire connector to the glass once (old French car), glued it back on, but with a bad electrical connection, when I turned it on, the resultant heat cause the glass to shatter!)
  2. I think this is the type you refer too .. I'll certainly be on the look out for some Flyer_Entlueftungsventil.pdf https://www.louis-moto.co.uk/artikel/stahlbus-bleeder-valve-with-banjo-bolt/10002823?filter_article_number=10002823#description
  3. Halfords is the only shop I've found the card accepted (Lexus dealers in Kent all refuse to accept it) ... but in Halfords they do accept it, but for whatever reason their scanner doesn't know about it, so they apply a manual discount to the same amount. If you buy car parts via their partner, often their prices are really good, especially for Pagid brakes (cheaper than most motor factors) ...
  4. agreed .. clamp, bleed and wipe... just be careful getting the old one out, especially if you fear it is seized. you don't want to snap it off in the caliper (I did that once on an old Renault (oops)
  5. due to the tyre width, I invested in some new ramps... like these below .... really light, but really solid and plenty of width for the modern tyres. Very reassuring when working underneath either our Rx450h or ID200d. I figured the cost was justified for the reassurance it gives me ... especially working on the IS rear diff and that awful fuel filter. https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B003ZAGI9E/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_3yuhxbZD5SGCQ
  6. eityher use default windows (pretty good nowadays) or alternative put it on a memory stick, get loads more on there then and less messing about when driving
  7. it may be worth going through a claims adjuster, they often work to your instruction, rather than the insurance group working to their default procedure.
  8. With my IS and Rx, I found this to be a Microsoft windows bug, rather than Lexus. For windows, you can download a tool called "FAT sorter" .. then re-order the files on your memory stick ... should put them all in alphabetical order.
  9. you can have my 2012 IS200d for £5k ... what I'm being offered as part exchange is frankly insulting. Before my IS, I had an Avensis, and I loved it..solid car. sounds like your running costs are the main issue... don't forget to factor servicing/maintenance.. regardless Toyota/Lexus will fur sure save you from unwanted garage bills, but you know that. I've been in loads of Prius used for taxi's .. the drivers all seem to love them .. which says a lot for a working car... just make sure you don;t get one they have had before you!
  10. seems like that is what happened... direct hit from the rear.. .car smashed, but nothing else happened. The rear of the car is damaged, tailgate, bumper, a support strut, exhaust etc all being replaced. My wife is suffering with whiplash, but in her hands/arms/// a bit weird, but I assume she took the rebound impact on the steering wheel, or maybe some impulse muscle reaction.
  11. Please excuse the obvious double entendre's here.... but other than 'bracing your self', what else should happen when your rear-ended in an Rx450h ? My wife's car was hit on the week-end and we didn't notice anything. The other car is a write off (toyota previa), but the Rx whad some significant damage also ... it will need a new boot, bumper and some structural parts underneath the bumper.... I was surprised nothing happened.. no air bags, no seat belt tensioners .. nothing. The car started up without any warnings on the dashboard. What is expected?
  12. Yes, does both, or it certainly used to.... they are supposed to arrange the repair via the insurance company, but guarantee genuine parts etc.... just wanted to know if anyone has experience of the service
  13. My wife's just been in a bump, hit from behind... boot and bumper pushed in. Wife is ok, so Police were happy for the car to be driven home So, question is, do we use lexus assist, or go via insurance directly... worried about insurance using a cheap repair shop, but not sure how it all works
  14. I got the same from a dealer today ... it will be introduced with the ES (MY20), sometime in Q1 next year, perhaps with the new prices. He didn't know if it would be backward compatible, but had heard rumours ... seems like the waiting game goes on.....
  15. brake fluid must be changed every two years, so that would line up with a major service... I had the same from a dealer, I found over £400 later they hadn't changed it (still dark fluid, and undisturbed dust on the reservoir cap) ... I called them up on it, but was just shouted at down the phone by a very angry mechanic... won't be going back there again! The fluid absorbs moisture, you can see the fluid is old, as new fluid is clear, gets darker with age.. on a hybrid you really need to look after the brakes... they don;t get used as heavily as with normal cars, so need to know they work when you really need them!
  16. I'm gong to cancel mine, as the Kent dealers just refused to accept it over the previous few years.. it is interesting you have had different experience, by they blankly refused it... both for parts and servicing. My view, car is great, dealers are not so good, frequently miss items in servicing, no discount, refusal to price match on tyres etc...
  17. how did you manage to get discount on the the service.????.. I tried this with two dealers (Canterbury and Tunbridge), they both refused to allow the club discount, as they said their pricing was fixed by Lexus UK. They also refused to allow the discount on parts, as they are apparently already at trade prices.... so far I have never seen any discount from Lexus due to the club discount, only seems to work in halfrauds... a lot of money for a few quid on a bottle of screen wash!
  18. these are great cars, ultra reliable .. my only gripe is the limited storage space. This is a true hybrid, so the electric mode is engaged whenever the computer decided that is more efficient, it can be at high speeds or low, usually more related to rate of speed change than actual speed .. loads of good articles about how the Toyota/Lexus hybrid works... worth a read as it will blow your mind (they're years ahead of the Euro brands) we get 30 - 35mpg ... mostly my wife's over enthusiastic driving... I'm sure I could get 40 if she let me have it for a week. as with any car, worth getting highest spec you can afford... but avoid the air suspension, that seems to be the only part people have trouble with.
  19. I had a slow leak, turned out to be a seam on the radiator, but really hard to see ... when I was giving it a service, with the engine bay plastic removed, I could just see the pink crystals growing ... right above the top hose
  20. I usually use the boot before/after every journey, so just run my thumb over the lens each time I open it... one day I'll get around to cleaning the rest of the car!
  21. need to check the breaks have been done..but for subframe should be harmless ... unless it has been parked in the sea! worth a peek underneath, but I'd expect anything to worry about would have been flagged as a fail.. probably just surface corrosion which is not unusual on these thick steel components... a wire brush and can of waxoil usually puts minds at ease.
  22. I spoke to Lexus UK yesterday, they insisted there is still no news for Apple Carplay on the ES... instead for the UK, only available for the new Rx450. Seems like confusion all over the place.
  23. interesting... is it described as a regional variant, or optional feature?
  24. I just pay the 3 Euro's and download the official workshop guide from Lexus/Toyota direct.. that way I know it is correct to my chassis number.... it is a bit clumsy to find your way around, but once you are in, for 3 Euro, you get 1 hour to download whatever content you want (or longer if you want to pay more)... usually 1hr is more than enough for any give job I am considering. https://www.lexus-tech.eu/
  25. I wish my teenager would shout at people in another country and point out their failings ..... instead of targetting us for a while!
