  1. Type of tyre, my Dunlops do it. Will change to Avon ZZ5`s next as alleged to be quieter & do not judder on full lock. I have been reading about this on the GS forums. Ed
  2. Did you clean out your drain channels & did it rectify the problem? Which Volvo did you go for? Good Luck with it. Nice Cars. Ed
  3. The leather in my GS300H feels exactly the same as in my previous IS300H. No noticeable wear on either at 30k miles.
  4. My dealer said the same. If it is fixed by a clean of the pads then it clearly isn't "normal" imho.
  5. Me to!! When I bought my IS300H Fsport & then the GS300H I asked myself how fast I wanted to go? I did want nippy move off from rest and they both more than delivered on that due to the electric motor. The mid range was decent to. I have seen these lads in there Golf R`s driving fast because if they don't what is the point of one? Not particularly comfortable, not particularly reliable don't even look particularly good just like any other Golf and they cost £32k. £32k for a freakin Golf. Once you have done a few Launch Controls and wreaked your fragile DSG the novelty must surely wear off? Good for a burn around the lanes or on a track they say maybe true but I don't do that just A to B on public roads at the speed limit, or a bit over done in comfort . Now 25 years ago perhaps but I couldn't afford a £32k car then!! The GS is actually pretty fast in sport mode and you can if desired use the flappy paddles but I cannot really be bothered. Ed
  6. In the days of a Lucas sealed beam which were like candles, cars with a carburettor and a manual choke and points to replace & gap with a feeler gauge...I don't miss those days
  7. How could they repair it without using any paint? I had Smart insurance and also had a repair which was perfect. I doubt glasscoat would have made any difference. On my next car I declined the extras they try their hardest to sell you. It would take 3 claims to make the insurance worth the extra cost. Good for peace of mind I suppose. Ed
  8. The light clusters have drain channels behind them. These can get blocked with leaves etc. Remove two screws & pull light away from body. clean debris & refit. Easier than taking your car back for a refund. When I did mine the water went from slowly draining to instantly vanishing. It is overspill probably caused by blocked drains causing water to backup. ED
  9. Turbos blowing which scraps out the engine. I bet Golf R owners are playing with Launch Mode which put a hell of a strain on the mechanics. 20 years ago I would have loved a Golf R or its equivalent not now though prefer the GS. That`s what age does. Its a drip into the boot which is probably caused by blocked drain channels. The light clusters are easy to remove I did mine as it was easier than taking it to the dealership.
  10. Agree get rid immediately What is the perfect car though?
  11. My previous IS300H didnt do that. I cannot see how it would run down the hinge. There are some channels that allow water to run behind the light clusters that can get blocked with leaves. Could you really return a car for a bit of water running into the boot? My wifes Mazda drips water onto your head when the tailgate is lifted. Put some more pictures up. Ed
  12. I have done 3 times that in a Lexus with no issues or worries either. Battery EV`s probably are the future but at present the Nissan leaf or its ilks is not it imho.Tesla will pioneer it but it will take a large established manufacturer to refine it. As you posted the Kodak story they pioneered digital cameras but it took Canon & Nikon to make a success of them. I am going to wait a few years!!
  13. Tesla are an up and coming company and what they are doing is interesting & exciting. They are still experimenting and for most not a viable alternative to a ice car. Anyone who is prepared to spend upwards of £60k on one is brave to say the least. I would rather something more reliable, better made & more developed. The doors on the Model X are pointless over engineered and will quite likely always be unreliable. Why not normal open & close doors which work? £60k would give you a choice of some superb cars. I was on the M40 last week in a traffic jam and there was a Model S on the shoulder about to be winched onto a recovery truck. Maybe just out of electric as the traffic had been crawling along for ages. Ed
  14. I did that move and if you like the IS300H you will love the GS300H. It is another level up in build quality and refinement. The engine is pretty much inaudible and I am getting a consistent 45 mpg with normal driving and I am not a slow driver. Luxury spec has all the toys as standard. Heated cooled leather electricly adjustable seats, blind spot warning. reverse camera front & rear parking sensors led interior lights, ambient lighting in doors. The standard non ML stereo sounds better to. It doesnt support Album Art from the USB or have Gracenote though. Good Luck. Ed
  15. [pb2g2DdxbG8] [/pb2g2DdxbG8] Maybe sliding doors would have been a better option.
  16. I doubt you can get a true picture of what R&D a large company like Toyota are up to from a Google search most of which are written by some junior hack who has also only researched from other equally inaccurate Google searches. Remember GIGO. The way I see it is electric cars are not there in terms of every day usability unless you only drive to the local shops & back. Tesla are interesting but at £65k it is hardly a car for the masses. I would rather have a Range Rover for that kind of money. The Model X is not proving to be very reliable and gull wing doors are not suitable in the small parking spaces of the UK. Ed
  17. No its not about you wearing trainers its about how something can look stylish & sporty but doesn't have to be super fast. Rosie Huntington-Whitely & Cara Delevingne two top models are pretty & stylish but doubt they can run particularly fast.
  18. Style is a waste of money is it? erm not sure I agree with you on that one. People buy sports shoes not because they are athletes but because they look nice & are comfortable. I love the stylish look of the IS300H Fsport but didnt buy it to go round the Nuremberg. The IS300h does have "substance" in so far as it is well made drives well is comfortable & more than fast enough for the public highway.
  19. Sport is just a trim level, so it looks sporty, LED fogs different alloys low profile tyres with a firmer suspension. It is not a sports car and who ever would buy one thinking it as an alternative to a 340i or M3. Engine & transmission same as all IS300H`s. Ed
  20. I doubt anyone enjoys listening to an engine revving do they?? Unless it is a V8. Still a nicer sound than any diesel and silent once the desired speed is reached. Most of my journeys seem to be on smart motorways at 60 mph with speed cameras watching or crawling along in traffic jams
  21. Lexus don't make a diesel so no tractor engines!! The BMW is a PHEV and once out of battery, (25 miles?) needs a 2 to 3 hour charge. I prefer the seamless electric petrol mix of a non plug in Hybrid. I have not drove the BMW but surely if you accelerate hard you would hear the engine? You certainly do in standard petrol BMW`s. Ed
  22. Yes and some cars have a sports exhaust fitted to emphasise engine sound!!
  23. That is the engine not the CVT. The CVT makes no noticeable noise.
  24. The Fsport has a excellent chassis with superb road holding though. It also very nippy out of junctions. It is also pretty fast mid range when you need good acceleration to join a motorway for example. Definitely not just about gentle driving and economy although it excels in these areas. The only complaint from some seems to be the engine noise as the CVT holds the revs. I regard that as a characteristic and preferable to diesel rattle blocked DPF Ad-Blue and pollution. At our previous address all diesels had to pay a hefty premium for a residents parking permit!!
