  1. Most car theft is from burglary & stealing the key or cloning a key through the OBD port. Not the vehicle having a keyless entry or not.
  2. Great Cameras great choice. You could just use the camera and discard the extension. Mount it to the shaded area. It will be neater and less noticeable from the outside.
  3. If you lost your keys and many people do your car would be recovered to a Lexus dealership. There they would take a blank fob and programme it into your vehicle using a laptop plugged into the OBD port. Thieves have got hold of the software and are doing the same. BMW Jaguar Landrover etc all being stolen the same way. There are external companies who can disable the OBD port so you have two fobs to access the vehicle. If I had a new Range Rover I would have one of these fitted. The other way is they manage to record the signal from the fob and clone it then use it to gain access. A few cases of thieves poking an antenna through the letterbox to pick up the signal. Sorry to hear about your RX. At least you know where it ended up and wont have to have it back. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3244460/Detectives-tracking-Lexus-stolen-London-Uganda-alongside-fleet-stolen-British-cars-worth-1million.html Ed
  4. Possibly true as two weeks ago I could sign in and see service history etc but not working today.
  5. I am thinking of having the GS tinted. Not local to you but gives an idea of price. http://syanwindowtint.co.uk/cars.html Ed
  6. Car detailing is a big business. I find Sonax Perfect finish to be excellent. The better products are not available in Halfords. A great non dusting no white residue polish is Autosmart Topaz. Easy to apply and remove with great results. I bought mine direct from the rep.
  7. The entertainment system in the 2018 LS looks pretty good but Lexus have not embraced Apple car play or Android auto. Would have to add it as extra cost option though which in my experience are never allowed!! The digital dash on the A4 is extra cost as is hill hold & a reverse camera. I suspect most will be bought with the standard setup.
  8. My favourite mobile from 2012 my Razr Maxx..........wish I still had it. Although my current S7 Edge is pretty good but not really a fair comparison 4 years later.
  9. The system in my GS works pretty well & integrates perfectly with my mobile. No complaints. It is though a system which was made when the 4GS was launched in 2012. Technology moves forward at a fast pace so after 4 years or less something better will come along. No point comparing a 4 year old system with what has just come out in a brand new model of car. Still got your laptop or mobile phone from 2012 have you? No me neither!! The interior in the DS7 is hideous imho even if it works which in a Citroen it probably doesn't. Ed
  10. Yes I had a look at a DS5, loads of oddly placed buttons to the left & right and in the roof area, laggy system overall and had to use the screen to control the aircon which was a pain. I wouldn't trade a well made reliable car for one even if it did have the best in car electronics. DS is just a debadged Citroen and they don't make things very well. I much prefer the system in my GS and the IS before that. The system in the 2017 5 series is excellent but has only just come out. Previous BMW idrive was nothing special and my colleagues one doesn't even have a satnav. Maybe the Lexus system isnt the best system but it isnt the worst by a long shot. Mine reads out emails & texts Plays music from my phone via bluetooth seamlessly. Has google search for destinations. No complaint really. I prefer the mouse controller to a wheel. Ed
  11. Ah I read it (wrong) as a 3rd gen GS!! I wish the interior ambient lighting didn't dim when selecting D. Now if I had a wiring diagram for the GS..........................
  12. I assume "Gas" is a GS and if you have a 300H then it is a 4th gen!! I had an IS and to moved to a GS, great car. Ed
  13. Should have bought Textar as they make the Lexus pads. Half the price!! A cheapy set of Mintex pretty much cured the grunt on my GS. Let us know how you get on. My thinking was the grunt was bad with the factory original pads so try a different make & so far been pleased with the Mintex ones. More likely just because they are new & not glazed. (Same company TMD make the pads, quality / price order is Mintex- Pagid -Textar) Lots of the OEM Toyota / Lexus boxed pads have Textar stamped on them. Ed
  14. Groan or grunt? Grunt is slow snails pace as the pads release off the disc. I will avoid Brembo discs & Pagid pads as original discs with Mintex pads has largely solved it on my GS. I have had loads of automatic cars & none had brake grunt!! I cannot see why the Lexus suffers from it. Ed
  15. It has to be a AGM & VRLA spec but imho a normal Bosch battery would work just as well and they are £60 and what I would fit if out of warranty. £250 is expensive but some sites have them for the bargain price of £180!! Ed
  16. Turn on wifi hotspot on your mobile it worked on my previous IS300H. Search for a wifi hotspot in the menu. On my GS which only has Bluetooth tethering I have a programme called BlueDun. (The GS uses a dial up networking connection!!) Not many phones support it. With BlueDUN installed it works well. Google searches work and can download the coordinates direct to the the Satnav. I hope this helps. Ed
  17. A thread "Hybrid System Issue" has lots of discussion about the type of battery. I am sure my previous IS300 Fsport had a Panasonic battery. In which case this is it. http://www.panasonic.hk/english/products/living/car-battery/caos-hybrid-maintenance-free-car-battery-(jis-for-hybrid-vehicle)/n-s46b24lr-hv-(49ah).aspx I hope this helps Ed.
  18. My dealer said it was normal & offered no solution. The pads imho get contaminated & glazed. I tried a few emergency stops but it didn't make any difference. In desperation I fitted a set of cheap Mintex pads to the rear and the grunt is pretty much gone. I have a set of more expensive Textar pads for the front. I am fairly certain Lexus OEM are made by Textar. Ed
  19. It is a special type of battery. There was a thread on it. I will have a search........................
  20. I did it myself following the method in this link. https://www.clublexus.com/forums/is-3rd-gen-2014-present/752758-steps-to-modify-the-lane-change-flasher-time-change.html
  21. It probably needs a scan. Its in the setup menu have a play or google the manual. My GS had a quick start paper manual and a full one on a CD. it was in the glove box. .
  22. The reversing light is a filament bulb the fog light is an LED. The side of each varies on right or left hand drive. USA spec has two reversing lights as fog lights are not required to be fitted. I was tempted to fit a new cluster on one side to gain another reversing light and move the fogs to the reflectors.Conversions are available. Not sure it is worth the effort & expense though!! Ed
  23. Agreed although if very black with brake dust I use Demon Wheels which helps shift the dirt without being to harsh. Ed
