  1. Not wanting to get into a slagging match but my kid was run over last year at night time by someone who had side lights on. There were many other factors such as she had a black coat (school requires black uniform including coat but I now make her wear reflective arm bands things - much to her disgust) and it was foggy but none the less, side lights in the dark are not appropriate regardless of how 'cool' the car looks. I think my IS200 looks much better with only its side lights than full lights and I tend to have them on as soon as its not completely light but as soon as required, full lights go on. Its not just about where I'm going, its so other people see me. Personally, I'd vote that we are like Sweden and compulsory to have side lights on all the time.
  2. I guess what I'd like and what I can have are two completely different things but keeping reality in check, I did like the new Saab 9-3 Sports Saloon (until I drove it), think Audi A4's styling have come on a long long way recently and some models do look good. Not sure I could drive a BMW 3 series (too many people have got them and it boils me to have to spend so much on getting the spec up from standard), would have to be X5 if anything but couldn't afford. Don't fancy the RX8 although one day I see one and think, naah, then the next time, think yeah quite nice! Just don't like the names of Honda, Volkswagon, Peugeot etc and Mercedes are not what they used to be. Father in law has an S class which should be the best quality and service and its very poor (but then the service I get from Lexus currently hits that category for me). Ideally, I'd love to get the new Hybrid RX300 next year as it combines all the things I want from a vehicle. High up and spacious driving position, half decent performance for a 4x4 and fuel economy that is comparable to more normal cars. Plus all the other things the RX300 has going for it. But I think is out of my price range. So as you can see, haven't a bloomin clue what car is next!!!
  3. ***, I've cocked it up again, can't get my quotes right!!! I'm going home, must have had too much beer!!!! Sorry!!!
  4. I like the new site, like the colours and now things like Todays Active posts are on both the top and bottom, its kept the nice things from the old size. Definately looks fresher and cleaner. Only think I would say its now bordering on information clutter. If there are anymore revamps planned in the future, I would do anything to put more buttons or info on any one page as it will almost get to the point where you can't find the simple things you want. But a thumbs up from me!!! (for what its worth)
  5. I know there have been a few postings recently about whether Ebay can be trusted and the general view is yes and to look out for tell tale signs of dodgy people. But I just wanted to let those who use it know that this morning, I received an email from what looks completely genuine from Ebay saying my bank had contacted them saying some unauthorized activity had been going on and could I log in and update my details. Then it goes on to say it will be asking for my password, credit cards details etc etc which completely made me suspicious. So I did a google on the senders email address and its completely fraudulent and the link from the email takes you to what looks identical to the ebay website but is someone elses and they use all the info you type in and probably clean your account out. For more info, go to Fraudwatch International Webpage Some people will go to any lengths to rob ya!!
  6. Isn't petrol all supposed to be the same stuff made to the same standards ie. same octanes or whatever they are? Didn't realise it would be noticably different between distributors!! I know there are different types of unleaded ie. Optimax etc but thought the standard stuff was literally that, standard!
  7. In theory, this would eventually show up as you can only leave feedback on an item that has officially been posted. Therefore, when you look at someones feedback, if you were lucky enough to come across the item that the seller has purchased just to give them good feedback, you'd know that its all false info. If this doesn't make sense, click on a user in Ebay and then click on their feedback, you can actually view the items that the feedback has been received on!!
  8. I've just done the search and found the 5 page posting of when this was first achieved. Way out of my league so big time respect to all those who have had a go and achieved their goal. If I attempted that, I'd be shorting everything out, blowing fuses like there was tomorrow or the end result would be switching my fog lights on with my key fob or something!! I'll reside to pressing the button each time!!!!
  9. HOW???? I too would love for the mirrors to fold in automatically when I'm done with driving!! Now in auto pilot and press the button each time!!
  10. Thanks for putting back the 'Todays Active Posts' button but could it also be put at the bottom of the page as well cos when you scroll down through the postings and have finished reading the last one, you have to go back to the top to go back to the page!!
  11. Jesus, in comparison to my car, that must mean he has something like a 140 litre tank on the basis that its about £53 to fill my 70 litre tank up!!!!
  12. I'm a regular user of Ebay and there are gits out there that will take your money and run (BBC news reported this week someone who has just been prosecuted for taking £100k from people) but in general and from my experience, its all okay. Just need to read everything about the post and if necessary, email them. Those that are businesses trading tend to offer a returns policy but private individuals wont and once you get them, you get them. Best thing to do is pay via paypal as you have come back but only upto a certain amount but its more than the price for trainers. Sellers must live up to what they say in their item. I personally go alot on their feedback. If lots of negative, steer clear. If low numbers, be concerned as either not experienced OR they keep changing to a new id because of crap feedback before hand. Most I've spent on one item on ebay was £460 and whilst I wet myself waiting for the item to turn up, it did. Good luck in whatever you decide.
  13. Cool, thanks boys. I'm good at saying things in a certain way meaning one thing only to usually offend as my very dry sense of humour has lots of sarcasm so what I find funny tends to upset others. So thought I had said something to upset someone. Thought it couldn't be too bad cos of the 0% but as I couldn't see it on anyone else's, thought I was hand picked!! So thanks for the explanation!! I'm off now to look at the rest of the cracking new look board!! Well done.....
  14. With the new look board and all, I was looking at all the areas a lot more closer and noticed on my profile that I have a Warn: (0%) and some blocks after it. What does that mean? Have I don't something wrong previously and this is someone's way of giving me a naughty person grading? Can't see anyone else with it?
  15. I think I can see where the problem is here........ the words Lexus in Bracknell sends shivers down my spine. They are the pits of any dealer around and you only have to search on here to find other posts of mine detailing the hell they have provided to me. But aside from that, I too had mine changed recently during a 40k service at Twickenham and although covered under warranty, don't think it was much more than £180. Definately go elsewhere.
  16. I love my car but two quibbles are the poor mpg along with the okay but not decent acceleration. If I could only get near 532 miles out of a tank, I'd be well chuffed. Driving like my nan and mainly on motorways, I've only ever got 436 miles out of mine and I ran out of petrol as well as I was crawling into the petrol garage. To get another 100 or so miles would be a dream!
  17. Most PC video applications allow you to do this. Obviously varies depending which app you use but its a case of importing the mpeg image into the app and then either cutting it down/cutting bits out to fit to the size you want or splitting it into two seperate sections and saving each to a disc but as its only 12 minutes over, (depending what it is) you may want to find 12 minutes to chop out. Probably easier to find 12 mins you don't want if a home movie but not so easy if its a program/film/etc. As for applications, there are many free ones out there and you probably got one when you bought your DVDr writer. Or you can buy them. Or you can download them from certain file sharing services!
  18. Ta Scarface - I guess it does answer it. From a member of public view (and someone who actually has a lot of respect for the boys in blue), I've watched police cars struggle through traffic with no lights (traffic police always have lights on, its usually the smaller cars used by everyday cops) and thought that when they are speeding, surely its got to be safer to have lights and sirens going. But as you say, I guess they are judging the urgency of the call as to the need for the sirens/lights. Or a more critical person could say that the IDR box you mention is being misused and they are getting through traffic without using their sirens/lights (not a view I'm saying I hold, just saying that could be seen as what happens). As I say, I support the police in everyway, if I wasn't in IT, I'd have definately taken up a role in the police force.
  19. Law for one and another for everyone else I guess. Whose going to chase them down, stop them and question them? On a similar note, I never understand why police cars who are actually trying to get to an emergency try to fight their way through traffic using their horn as their indication of presence but still leave their blue lights and siren off!!
  20. LOL. Yeah, lazy it does sound but when your dragged round town with the missus and she loads you up with shopping to carry, I used to like to possibility of just pressing the button, the lid pops up and I can just chuck it all in at the same time. Yes, okay, maybe only 2 secs to put the shopping on the floor, open boot, pick shopping up and put in. Just a nice little 'facility' that I used to enjoy having on the car!!
  21. Why is it that I have to put some muscle into pulling up my petrol cap release lever inside the car before it will open? When my car was younger, it just needed a small pull and it would pop open! Now it needs yanking a couple of times! Any why does my boot release lever release the boot but it no longer bounces open, all it does is release the catch but I have to lift it up? I'll get it all looked at when I get the next service and I guess the answer is just that it all needs lubricating but just wondered if there were any quick fixes???
  22. Can't answer that unless when you started, the fuel guage was 'teetering' on edge of about to drop a notch and when you got home, its teetering again to drop another one but just hasn't got there, therefore giving the impression it hasn't used much. Personally, I don't rate fuel guages in any car as being accurate. I run my car down to fumes before filling up, sometimes I get the needle actually sitting on the bar below the empty sign and I fill up to find I still have 2 litres left. But then other times, i get the needle to the same spot, ie. just sitting on the bar and I find I still have 8-10 litres left when filling up. I've never had a car that is accurate. Even the ones that have a computer to tell you how many miles you have left before running out is normally wrong.
  23. And if it does get to court, use any work related reasons for your car especially if you do any out of normal hours work where public transport is difficult to get. I was in court a few years back doing 60 in a 30 and was already on 6 points. Informed the court that I was in IT and did out of hours callout (along with going over the top with apologies). They gave me 5 points in the end to put me upto 11 and said if I fart at the wrong junction again, I'll lose my licence. Unless you know you have a sound case against it, plead guilty as if you plead not guilty and it doesn't work for you, they will throw the book at you. They are more kind to those who own up!! Having said that, every case is different and if you think you will get an automatic ban, then fight it with anything you've got.
  24. I'm an IT manager for Entertainment UK (supplies DVD's, videos, games etc to every store of Woolies, Tesco, Safeway etc in the UK) and our systems show a release date of 29th October for GT4 on the PS2 and I can't find anything to say this has been delayed. Its also reflected on the Woolworths website as well.
