Been told what the registration number is going to be.. the salesman (David) had asked if it could be something relevant. It has ended up as my initials as the last two letters.. pity it was not an NX I was buying instead of an RX as the first two letters are NX. -

This one will be a low mileage one when I am finished with it. Now I have retired my mileage has gone down to around 6,000 miles a year. -
Well just over two years ago I made the "mistake" of having a look around the showroom of Lexus Teesside while my 2011 RX was in for a service and MOT. I saw a 2017 RX while there .. had a look .. ended up buying it. After retiring at the end of June I thought I would consider when to change again and went to Lexus Teesside again today to enquire about when the list prices of the new models would be out. Mentioned that the thought of the V6 being dropped was putting me off the 2023 ones. Sat in their showroom was a brand new (unregistered) RX450h Premium Sport in Dark Blue with cream seats, HUD, Panoramic Sunroof ... looked gorgeous, especially in that colour. It was tempting ... very tempting ... too tempting ... Yes.. I bought it .. picking it up on Tuesday .. they are going to remove the dashcams from the 2017 and install them in the new one on Tuesday.

Dealer using customer's car for business use
flookyk replied to MadJam250's topic in Lexus General Discussions
If any dealer did that with my car when in for a service or work required they would never get my business again. -
First Long Trip in the RX
flookyk replied to NemesisUK's topic in RX 300 / RX 350 / RX 400h / RX 200t / RX 450h Club
That's the problem with leaving clothes hung in a wardrobe without wearing them ... it was the same with my motorcycle leathers ...after being hung up not used for 5 year they had shrunk on the hanger and no longer fit.. my excuse anyway 😅 As for the auto heat/cooling for the seats in the RX they are great.. found this function after a couple of weeks and left them in auto since.. if the climate control thinks it needs warm air in the cabin then the heated seats turn on at a level depending how cold it is and if the climate control things it needs cold air in.the cabin the cooling fans in the seats turn on. -
Bing bloody Bong
flookyk replied to larryadler's topic in RX 300 / RX 350 / RX 400h / RX 200t / RX 450h Club
Well ... you will definitely not like one with the Lexus approved Nextbase dashcam fitted then as it also gives off a "bing bong" when it first turns on and when it switches off again. 😅 For myself they are all reassuring indications that the systems are working as they should.. especially the lights if I have manually put them from Auto to manual dipped beam. -
Service an MOT time

This is from Lexus Teesside where the car was bought from and originally supplied by to the owner before me and always serviced there. I had mentioned either looking at the new RX or new NX or last oc the current RX but wanted to see what ghe new dashboard would be like on the new RX so they arranged a new NX as a curtesy car for the day so I could see and live with for a day...and booked 2 weeks in advance of the service/MOT. Lexus Teesside have always been like this since my first RX 5 year ago even after being taken over by Stratstone from the original independent RMB Autos.. and there is also their Toyota Dealer next door. -

As an update.. I like the Topdon, if is very clear to read and does a lot more than I would need. As for the retirement.. you are right.. I much preferred working from home than the office anyway as got more done without being disturbed a the time.. and currently sat in the huge business lounge in Doha Airport on the way to a 2 week holiday to the Philippines as a retirement present to myself.. could get used to this. -
Automatic Full Beam
flookyk replied to Goodplan53's topic in RX 300 / RX 350 / RX 400h / RX 200t / RX 450h Club
When you say that the Auto high beam is engaged, do you mean that you have it on Auto on the light lever or that you have engaged the Auto dim by pressing the button down on the right on the dashboard next to the hatch release? -
High Fuel Costs - Any Changes In Your Driving Habits?
flookyk replied to Rabbers's topic in Lexus General Discussions
The only change for myself is not due to the increase price of fuel but due to taking early retirement at the end of June resulting in now only having to fill up once a month rather then 3 times a month. -

Just got a new toy. Today is my official retirement at 58 year old. A few months I forgot to lock my RX overnight and someone helped themselves to the cheap ODB2 reader I kept in the door pocket. So for my retirement the company I worked for asked me what I wanted as a retirement present and I selected a Topdon ArtiDiag800. Just got on charge at the moment and have updated all the software on it then will link it to the RX and have a play. -
It will still depend on the manufacturer.. just look at Tesla for example.. no where near as reliable as Lexus.

Cruise control RX450
flookyk replied to Cypry 1's topic in RX 300 / RX 350 / RX 400h / RX 200t / RX 450h Club
I think Colin Barber answered this earlier in this post. You have to switch off the adaptive radar controlled cruise control and set it as normal cruise. -
Service an MOT time

If you can do without the bigger size of the RX and the smoothness of the V6 then the NX seemed a great car, but if affordable then the full spec of the one I had for the day. The new dashboard with the big 14 inch screen is a vast improvement. If you think you would miss the power of the RX450h and have somewhere to plug in then consider the NX450h+ which just about matches the output of the RX but in a smaller body. If you want to try one ask specifically for one as a curtesy car while yours is in for a service.. my dealer were very obliging with thar request. -
Service an MOT time
flookyk replied to flookyk's topic in RX 300 / RX 350 / RX 400h / RX 200t / RX 450h Club
Another MOT passed. The NX was actually quite good .. if it was bigger .. and more power.. maybe the new RX may be worth waiting for.🤔 -
I can't believe it's a year since last MOT and service. It's in today so fingers crossed on the MOT.. I had the big 60,000 mile service done last year at around 56,000 miles so only a minor one this time. I requested an NX as a curtesy car so I can see what the new dashboard on the new RX will be like.. impressed.. I like the changes... just have to decide if the new interior is worth them dropping the V6 before I choose my retirement present. I like the HUD, the suround camera and the Mark Levison sound system on the NX curtesy car.

RX500h Direct4 system
flookyk replied to flookyk's topic in RX 300 / RX 350 / RX 400h / RX 200t / RX 450h Club
I managed to find diagrams of it online.. it still uses electric only on the rear .. so what I was hoping. -
Why do you think it is dangerous? All you do is set your speed at say 60mph then set whichever distance gap you want and if the traffic flow is slower the car slows you down to match the traffic in front. If you need to overtake you accelerate past then let go of the throttle and let the car slow you down again to the speed you had set... all the speed limits in the UK are in 10mph intervals not 1mph.
-
One point to note .. Lexus have been writing to those of us that pay for the Lexus Breakdown cover monthy .. they are no longer giving this option.. they will only be doing payments annually or biannual.
-
Anyone know how the Direct4 system works on the new RX500h? I know it is no longer going to be a CVT but 6 speed auto with the front electric motor between the engine and transmission but what about the rear? Is there going to be a front to rear propshaft in addition to the electric motor or just the electric motor only as the current RX450h?

2023 Lexus RX
flookyk replied to rayaans's topic in RX 300 / RX 350 / RX 400h / RX 200t / RX 450h Club
I will be retiring in a couple of months, was waiting to see what the 2023 RX was going to be like. I like the interior but not the lack of the V6.. might end up getting one of the last Gen 4 instead of a Gen5 -
