  1. It's five years old with 66,000 on the clock and I only do about 4,000-6,000 per year myself. :) Did they ever do the GS430 Sport in black?
  2. That pretty much sums up how I feel about it. What mileage/age should the cambelt be changed?
  3. I should be going to look at a GS430 Sport tomorrow and was wondering if there is anything I need to pay attention to. I've owned my Series I GS300 Sport for over four years and had all the usual work done like ball joints etc. What are they like to run compared to the older 300s?
  4. This topic might be of interest regarding clear side repeaters: http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/ind...showtopic=14955 Particulary posts 21 and 22.
  5. Mine does this occasionally and has done in the four years I've owned the car. It has got to a point recently though where it's a complete lottery as to whether the fob will unlock the car or not so I'm now using the key. It's a shame the key doesn't activate and deactivate the alarm like the alarm fitted to earlier models. Have you tried this: http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/ind...showtopic=19509
  6. My Dad says thanks! :) I was tempted by it myself, but green isn't my preferred colour. Is it possible to play DVDs via the sat nav system?
  7. My Dad had to sell his 1994 LS400 quite a few years ago, but has been lucky enough to own one of his dream cars in the meantime, a Nissan Skyline. Recently the dealer he got the Skyline from got in a mint 1998 LS400 with only 69,000 miles on the clock and after a couple of weeks deliberating my Dad is part exchanging the Skyline for it, it was up for £6,850, but I don't know what deal they worked out. It's got a private plate, which my Uncle is having on his IS200, and sat nav, it's recently had the cambelt done and has got a full service history. My Dad is happy to be back with Lexus. :)
  8. It was the clamp that goes around the heat shield; the bolt had fallen off and the clamp was hanging off. I'm glad it was nothing major. :)
  9. My car has recently developed a rattle that sounds like it's coming from the exhaust, low on the driver's engine side behind the front wheel. It's quite bad when the engine is cold and idling high on the auto-choke and when you rev the engine, even slightly, when it's cold. As soon as the engine is warm it's barely noticeable and even not there. I haven't had chance to have a look yet so was wondering if you had any ideas?
  10. I've had my GS for 3-4 years now and it has always creaked at the front. No amount of servicing, greasing, new ball joints or new springs have ever cured it.
  11. A month or two ago my garage link in my signature worked again but I've clicked on it today and it just redirects to the forums' index page. What's happened to it?
  12. I've had the EBC Greenstuff and Turbo Groove combination on a previous car without any problems. I haven't been on any long runs recently to see how they are now.
  13. Seized pistons seems to be a common problem on the GS, Series I at least.
  14. Just an update: It has taken about 200 miles for the brakes to stop squeaking and I haven't been on any national speed limit roads to see how the judder is now. The EBC Greenstuff are making more break dust mess than I remember when I had them on another car a few years ago.
  15. Other than no hard braking how do you bed pads/discs in?
  16. New pads and discs were fitted all round last week and I went for EBC Turbo Groove discs and Greenstuff pads for the front, thanks to great LOC discount, and genuine boxed Toyota discs and Mintex pads for the rear, I got the rear discs on eBay for £115 delivered. I drove to Bristol yesterday and was getting some judder through the steering wheel when braking to a stop on motorway exit roads. There's no judder when braking around town. Any ideas what this might be?
  17. The front's ride height has been bothering me for a few weeks now so I decided to phone Spax and this is what they said: The part number I've been given, S043004, is lowered by 25mm but is for cars up to 1993 (although the first Sport came in 1995 ) The correct part number for a 1996 Sport is S043001 and is also lowered by 25mm. They couldn't really tell me the difference but suspect it's to do with the amount of force and weight they're designed for so could it be that S043004 is too weak for the Series I Sport, hence snapping, and why would this part number come after S043001 but be for earlier years? I don't know what to do now.
  18. Thanks. I might just go for them then and save some money.
  19. Hello all! I need to fit new pads and discs all round on my 1996 GS300 Sport and am wondering what to do: Mintex, EBC or a combination of both? At the moment I'm swaying towards EBC Greenstuff front pads and Turbo Groove front discs with Mintex pads and discs on the rear as a cost and performance compromise. I've had this EBC combination on the front of a previous car and liked it but I've read mixed things about EBC's performance on the GS300 so the other option is to save money and go Mintex all round. What do you think? How do Mintex perform and how dust free are they?
  20. Like mudzs' mine is in the window on my 1996 Sport but I have seen the Series I with the brake light in the rear spoiler.
  21. My Dad and I fitted the new springs yesterday, which saved on Lexus' £276 labour charge, but today I noticed the front looks higher than it did before, i.e. there's more clearance between the top of the tyre and the edge of the wheel arch than I remember. I assume this is normal with new springs being as they haven't suffered 11 years of use plus they don't have any sag. Please put my mind at rest that I don't have the wrong springs, the part ordering was in the hands of Lexus and no one else I tried could source Series I Sport springs.
  22. I have the opposite problem, my cartridge ejects but it no longer reads any CDs.
  23. The front springs came today and they are black Spax ones, Spax part number S043004.
  24. I did know that. :) Lexus informed me that Lexus UK also replaced the shocks as well as the springs. Apparently it's not unusual but doesn't happen very often. They are both broken on the very bottom coil.
