  1. A simple 'tin box' might not be enough. I bought a cheap one that I think had a few sewing bits in because it was about the right size. Despite the lid being a good fit, when I tested it, it didn't work! Faraday pouches also degrade over time. Moral is, regularly check so that you don't end up with a false sense of security. My preference is to put the key fobs to sleep, as I described yesterday in this thread, to prevent relay thefts; and use a Stoplock or similar to deter CANbus thefts. Decent immobilisers/trackers are good but generally expensive. A simple tracker is more affordable and may help with recovering a stolen car but doesn't prevent the theft in the first place. Someone (Herbie I think) recommended one from rewiresecurity.co.uk/ although I haven't tried this myself.
  2. As you press the unlock button, a red led on the fob flashes but that's all.
  3. The key fob does not automatically go to sleep after a period of time. You can however manually make it go to sleep. I do this by pressing the unlock button twice whilst holding down the lock button - a 2 handed operation but easy and quick enough. Pressing the unlock button will wake it up again and unlock the door (if in range).
  4. Some differences in functionality can be explained by differences in legislation between Europe and USA. I don't think that's the case here but someone, somewhere suggested it could be a licensing issue. Seems plausible.
  5. A thought ... make sure you are adding an account. I think 'connect account' will be for the main account so it will be overwritten if this is selected. Also, make sure your main account key is well out of range, preferably turn the fob OFF (Press the unlock button twice whilst holding down the lock button) to make sure the car doesn't get confused.
  6. Congratulations Ian, satisfying to read as well as your own sense of satisfaction, and an encouragement to have a go at jobs that at first seem impossible - until you get the info from Colin and others 🙂 Embodies all that is good about these forums.
  7. Welcome to the forum David. Andy has pointed you in the direction of a lot of useful information. The two manuals total about 1,300 pages so plenty to absorb. I don't find them particularly well written however, so I also recommend the YouTube videos that Andy has linked to. They are for the US model but still very useful. The NX does not have DC rapid charging so the best you'll get is from your wall charger or an equivalent public charger. This takes roughly 2 hours 40 minutes from empty to full ('empty' is a misnomer, battery will still have about 30% charge but for all practical purposes, call it 'empty'). Charging is much slower from a mains wall socket, about 6-7 hours. Not a problem if you set to charge overnight.
  8. A Tesla owning friend told me today that his range has been down markedly in the cold weather. No surprise there, nor that using the heating and air conditioning also reduced range. What did surprise me though was his observation that wet roads also reduced range noticeably; the heavier the surface water, the greater the impact.
  9. With others taking about the update, I went out to my car this afternoon and looked up software update in settings and the magic started to happen. It may have tried on its own on Friday as the app wouldn't connect to the car and I had an error message on the display (not displayed long enough to read what it said) when I went out to start the car.
  10. Naturally always best to check for your particular model. I prefer the manufacturer's website (saxon-brands.com/product/stoplock). Andy's NX300h is listed with the Pro model recommended. His 22 NX350h isn't listed but since the Pro is recommended for all Lexus models in the application guide, I think it's safe to assume it will fit. MY NX450h isn't listed either but the Stoplock does fit.
  11. I should have mentioned that there are 2 models that are suitable, the Pro and the Pro Elite. They both have the same strength and locks, the difference is that the Pro Elite has deeper curves for steering wheels with a deeper dish. IIRC, the application guide recommends the Pro but says the Pro Elite will fit. I did go for the latter model, just in case my next car needed it but the Pro might have been better choice and would have saved me a couple of quid. See the manufacturer's website for full details.
  12. I am surprised this is still an issue in 2022 with so much tech on the car. This is surely a very practical safety feature that would benefit most owners. In the 70s, I spliced a piece of copper tube into the rubber hose for the heater and wrapped the plastic tubing around it. Simple and effective. Not perfect as the nozzles sometimes froze and the warmed washer fluid couldn't flow until they had defrosted. In this day and age, I would have thought heated nozzles would be very possible.
  13. I agree with Herbs - I've got the Stoplock too. The other one that comes out well in reviews is the Disklok. This appears to have the advantage of covering the steering, presumably making it difficult to remove the whole steering wheel. I don't know but I imagine it is heavier, which could be a disadvantage when fitting or removing.
  14. With the engine running, defrosting and warming is indeed very quick, especially if electric pre-heating has been used before hand. The electric pre-heating works in a different way, the electric heat pump just isn't as powerful as ICE heating even when connected to the mains charger. This can also be evident if I set off in electric mode; in these cold temperatures, the ICE will sometimes kick in to give the heating levels that I have set. This isn't a criticism, just part of the design and the compromise between electric and ICE.
  15. Sadly it won't let me although obviously there will be a point when I can use it again. I've even tried putting it on for 10 minutes, leaving it a quarter of an hour and then turning it on for 20 minutes. It wasn't fooled!
  16. Last few days have been interesting! Charging flap wouldn't open due to ice build up. Charging flap wouldn't close due to snow build up overnight as car was charging and then compressing into ice in the well where the hinge would normally tuck into, preventing the door from closing. Now have a tooth brush as part of my anti-icing kit to sweep out the snow and ice. In cold conditions, I applauded the pre-heating of the cabin but not so enthusiastic now its got colder. The preheating will only stay on for a maximum of 20 minutes and that hasn't been enough to clear the windows of snow and ice, even the wipers have been left firmly welded to the screen. I have no problem clearing the snow and ice the old-fashioned way but I had expected more. Okay, so these conditions won't last that long and I would rather the car looked after its health long-term than burning something because of my impatience out but if I lived in Canada, Norway, etc where frequent spells of very cold snow and ice was the norm, I'd be feeling very let down by the design flaws right now.
  17. Hi DJ, See the posts of 27 October for info about the Share to Car feature.
  18. I prefer to have the car plugged in, into either my Alfsen home charging socket or into a domestic socket when using climate control via the app. If your traction battery is low, it wouldn't be a good idea to drain it further.
  19. I've just tested the climate control from the app and successfully set the heated steering wheel to come on. I 'm not planning on going out in the car so I switched it off after a couple of minutes but it appeared to be working and gave no errors. Remote starting of the car? I don't see any option for this in the app (v4.14.0) and understood that this feature was only available in the USA.
  20. The NX has a feature whereby you get a warning if you leave something on the rear seat. You can switch this warning off but note that on the NX there are 2 places where it has to be switched off.
  21. Not specifically aware, a lot going in a very short space of time! My guess is that they would have come on because I read somewhere that if the cruise control brakes the car because, for example, somebody pulls out in front of you, then they do illuminate.
  22. Thanks Alexander, I had heard this but my search for 'Lexus Aberdeen' in google maps came up with an address on the East Tullos Industrial Estate with a note saying it was permanently closed. It would still mean a 150 mile round trip but that's obviously a lot closer than Edinburgh. Do you have good experiences using them?
  23. Within the first week of collecting my car, I was driving along an A road at about 60mph and following another vehicle in dynamic radar cruise control mode. The vehicle in front indicated that he intended turning right at a junction ahead. He maintained his speed until he moved into the stacking lane, I stayed on the main road. As he braked in the stacking lane, my car on the main road rapidly decelerated at an alarming rate, down from 60mph to about 20mph. Very fortunately, there was nothing behind me. Had there been, I feel pretty sure that they would have run into the back of me. When I got home, I turned everything I could OFF, including an option called 'Overtake Prevention'. I couldn't be sure that this had been responsible because there is virtually no information in the manual about this function. However, fortunately, since turning it OFF, I haven't experienced anything similar or as frightening. I regard this as a SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN in the UK. Do others agree? If so, I will raise it with Lexus. I value your opinions.
