  1. Not sure what it will do on a cruise as all my journeys were relatively short. Due another test drive in a week or so will update with some new figures. I had a look at X5/X6 and really liked them but couldn't fit them into my garage!! The RX is relatively compact.
  2. What "MODE" were you driving it in please, I bet it was economy. You bet wrong!! :D Just tooled around innormal mode - got around 30 mpg on shortish journeys driving normally. I then (still in normal mode) tried to drive according to the economy readouts and managed 34.5 mpg albeit this was a slower driving style than I would like.
  3. Bracknell charged me 360 for 40K service but that included brake fluid change which isn't mandatory. Without it it would be about 310 ish I think. Also needed new front discs and pads which was another 400 or so. Hope you like the 450h as much as me - it had absolutely no sporting attributes whatsoever and just wafted me around - loved it!
  4. depends on the steepness. My 350 will roll back down a decent hill. Suggest it's not a problem.
  5. I have Lexus kit in my RX 350 - works a treat. Not very sophisticated (only shows playlists) but works fine for me. My dad has Vaistech fitted in his LS and it is great - shows artist, title etc
  6. I had 2003 LS430 and on a long motorway trip at 70 it would do 30mpg or so quite easily. very reliable but as everything is electric, check it all works and stick in a heavy duty battery just in case. Set aside cash for brake pads as they are quite heavy cars.
  7. Took the 350 in for 40000 service today and the "swines" at Bracknell gave me a new 450h to tool about in. First impressions is that it is a serious peice of kit. Quiet, economical (34.5mpg today), very comfy. Lots of nice new stuff like DAB radio, HDD music, USb slot etc. Also 3d satnav, keyless entry and chilled seats. Bad points - only that it ias only 2 parking sensors on front - will need to get two more added for peace of mind and, that I'll have to buy one now!!
  8. Not sure of the cause but this worked for me : 1) start car 2) stick a/c on full- make sure recirculate is off (or in your case switch a/c off) 3) under wiper blades outside there are 3 grills. 4) close doors 5) spray dettox or any nice smelling anti bacterial into each vent 3 or 4 times 6) leave engine running and ventilation on full for 5 mins - alternate between lower and upper and def a few times 7) repeat spray. This cleans from the outside in rather than inside out. Good luck!
  9. I assume they were non standard and retro fitted? If so my RX has a switch on dash for fronts and one in boot for rears. Hope this helps
  10. It's a dangerous route for Lexus IMHO. What attracted me to the brand was the customer service reputation, high equipment levels and good prices. Seems now that lexus is established they are heading down the premium prices / options pack route of BMW and Mercedes. I love Lexus I really do but IS250C at 44k - a bad joke I am afraid. Really struggling to change to new RX as it is 55K!! Just a theory but is the range being moved upwards to make room for the supposed small Lexus?
  11. No offence taken!! :) The car has done 40K. Carbon deposits start from day one but are dependent upon driving style, city vs motorway, spark plug performance etc. Maybe it is psychological - in which case I'm still a winner! :) Like I said it hasn't transformed the car but I think the car is slightly more economical, slightly freer revving and slightly smoother.
  12. Just wanted to relay my thoughts on a fuel system cleaner called BG44K. Just to make clear I have no connection with the producer or supplier so this is just my honest opinion. Most fuel system cleaners appear not to do much or even worse claim to give you extra BHP, loads more mpg etc etc. However I stumbled on BG44K and it made none of these claims other than it was only cleaner to have the actual chemicals needed to break down carbon deposits in your engine and, it only promises to restore car performance back to newly manufactured standards. No claims of extra 30 BHP etc !! Anyway I bought some from BG44k SUPPLIER and gave it a whirl. You just chuck it into half a tank, fill up immediately, use half a tank then fill up again. Well IMHO it seems to be good stuff. The engine seems smoother. Better Throttle response and freer revving. As for mpg there has been a slight but noticeable improvement. After I filled up I did a long motorway journey at 60-70 and got 32.5mpg which is about 1 more than expected. Next fill up I did long journey then an hour or so in heavy traffic before another motorway journey and got 27.1 mpg over 160 miles. So overall I have to say it seems to work. Nothing dramatic but not bad at all.
  13. Spoke to lexus Bracknell and they said they are taking orders August onwards for delivery in November if my memory serves me
  14. So now you have the world's first Lexus Diesel Hybrid what kind of mpg you getting?!
  15. Just from memory I thought it was 4 deg C at the vents
  16. www.blowers-jewellers.co.uk bought a few from them. Great service.
  17. I have same problem - can't think what would replace my 350 RX!! has to be 4wd has to have front and rear parking sensors and rear camera has to be auto has to be 0-60 under 9 seconds has to have leather, sunroof, sat nav, good stereo, leccy seats the works mmm X5 but very expensive Audi allroad - nice but harsh suspension Volvo V60 - nice but crappy engine ?????????????
  18. Hang on a few months - RAV 4 will be offered with 2,2D from Avensis with AUto Box!
  19. I love it. Has really saved me time on a number of occasions. I find that the delay from a problem to being notified is about 30 minutes - so any accident in last 5 minutes will not crop up. However, my favourite is the umbrella sign and notification of "adverse weather conditions ahead" Definitely worth having IMHO
  20. I agree modern Tom Toms do more than the inbuilt Sat Nav in lexus. However, do you really need the latest disc? My disc is a few years old and in reality (I do lots of travelling) I have yet to have problems finding places. Also I prefer the inbuilt system as there are no wires / cradles to worry about or get nicked. So if the LS400 really is old CDbased system I would go with Tom Tom else if it is DVD basd I would just use that. My 2p worth!
  21. my 2p worth as to why the fuss?? 1) extra noise - I live near Heathrow so am used to it but believe me some people who have never experienced planes landing and taking off are going to get a BIG shock 2) HT is a pain in the arse to get to - M25 is bad enough but it's only going to get worse 3) it's another example of this Governments do as we say not as we do routine - they all kick us to death with "green" taxes then build an extra runway at Heathrow 4) The consultation was a typical new Labour fudge. 5) yet another bit our our countryside / communities bulldozed 6) there was no free vote on this in Parliment 7) another example of the "pull of London" - your average MP gets teh jitters outside M25 so that put teh kaibosh on any expansion to regional airports.
