  2. well i drove to sheffield today to see 2 ls400`s the first was at an independent dealer and was cheap at 9995 the only visual problem i could find was underneath the boot carpet in the corners it was a bit damp and foisty, apart from that all appeared ok so i drove to the main dealer expecting a much better car for almot 16000 and the same year model, underneath the boot liner it was corroded to the point of flaking paint and bubbling, the boot catch was corroded and in the left corner it was wet and again rusty :o now ive never heard of this problem before but thats 2 cars with the same dampness anyone any ideas and is it a common fault. chris
  3. STRANGE BUT TRUE I can play golf both left and right handed but im naturally right handed and i cant play any other sport left handed :duh: go figure!!
  4. you could but chances are the police would say its a civil matter and not get involved " at least that what i would say " But common sense would prevail surely, i mean we (police) can issue a PG9 for an unfit car or use several con and use offences to prevent it from being driven but your car needs to be pretty ropey for that to happen. If I was called to that scenario I would get you the car back from the garage by having a quiet word unless it was a they said just too dangerous to be driven then i would tell you that if you drove it I would prosecute you for whatever con and use offence you were committing if you drove it That might not be the exact way by law to do it but thats the way i would do it in the real world with the pressures of racing from job to job and without all my law books to hand. PS: dont take any notice of me im in CID
  5. yeah why not, ive got another one to see the same day just down the road for less than 10000 at an independent so ive got a back up car if they dont budge on this one, like you say ill put my offer in and walk away ( go see the other one ) then see if they ring, if i get it for less than 14000 ill send you a postal order for a pint
  6. cheers matt, i was just looking on whatcar myself, the insurance is not a problem like i said its for my dad and hes 70 years young the quote he got was under £350 i reckon i might try it on around 14000 to start sounds fair to me.
  7. ok everyone, im off to a lexus dealer on friday to look at a 1999 model v reg lexus ls400. it has 62000 miles on it and is on the forecourt for £15950. im gonna pay cash so no part ex involved. how much should i pay for it ? i was thinking no more than £14500, but i dont expect the lexus dealer will go that low. anyone with any good tips or suggestions feel free to pass it on. PS: the car is for my dad not me
  8. my parents used to live directly accross the street in Florida from the guy who played Roscoe.P. Coltrane in the Dukes of Hazard. When I went over to visit I use to see him most mornings driving around in his golf cart or cutting his lawn. brought back childhood memories :D
  9. wheres the fun in that :P removing the beads gives me a reason to go to work :D
  10. now is it just me or am I part of a larger club of members who wax their cars regular, and the following morning its covered in overnight rain or dew. therefore on the way to work i drive faster than normal in order to remove every last water bead that has formed on the bonnet. Now i use meguiars or autoglym depending on what i get out first and I find that I need to drive at 50mph-60mph to get the droplets moving but i need 70mph to really shift them, and theres always a few that require the 75mph treatment. I was just wondering because the other morning I found myself travelling at great speed just to remove the last water bead that was hanging on to the top of my bonnet It may become a statutory defense for speeding if enough of us use it in future :winky: right halftime over back to the footy
  11. he wont get away with that crap excuse, they will hang him out to dry :duh:
  12. yeah that must have been the one on saturday morning coz they didnt turn up for football match on the afternoon ( feel a bit of a :tsktsk: now for what we called them for not coming ) i wasnt trying to pry into your employment or anything like that i was just genuinely curious as to how you new about the post mortem results.
  13. yeah i agree it sounds like the old clutch judder problem, i dont get it much myself maybe only twice since ive owned my is200 but others have had problems. mind you ive sorted out my gearchange problems with the trd short shifter so im well happy :D
  14. anyway LEXUS BOY the question i want to ask is how do you know the outcome and details of the autopsy report. and when was this collision. just curious coz some footie mates were killed yesterday in york

  20. mine was £189 from XXXXXX (edited by Javadude to keep gold discount stuff secret squirrel) including gold discount :D im glad im not paying your southern prices :o
  21. well it just makes the change quicker and more positive, each change feels tight ( in a good way ) and that little bit better than before. I can certainly drive the car smoother and better than before the trd shifter just adds that little bit extra to make the whole gearchange feel controlled. i reckon its the same one as they have fitted to the new is200 sports models so if you fancy a test drive with a short shifter try it out to see what you think.
  22. nothing surprises me anymore. i hope it doesnt apply to CID and other serious crime squads coz if it does ill have to moonlight as a traffic officer to up my points it might work better if we got a percentage for all the crime we solved with murders, rapes, robberies etc at the top of the scale and motoring offences at the bottom. just a thought :duh:
  23. well after 2 weeks i finally got my car back tonite. it has been back to the dealer for a complete gearbox strip down and the synchro parts have been replaced along with some other technical sounding parts overall i have to concede that there is not even a slight improvement in the gearchange, the notchyness is still there to some degree in second and third and the famous clunk is still there when changing from 1st to 2nd. Im not blaming the dealer as they have been greatso far I just think that it is a fault on the IS in general that many others have suffered. however the clutch does feel much better, the car is now easier to drive at low speeds and overall feels smoother when accelerating in first and second gear. So i have no idea why this should be the case as the clutch hasnt been touched but it is definately noticeably smoother all round. So tonite i took the plunge and fitted my TRD shifter, armed with nothing more than a socket set i got to work and 1 hour later the job was complete. Once fitted I tested the gearbox and it felt awful, the gears were so notchy it was a joke and it was almost impossible to get it into 6th, However once i took it for a test run it was much better, the gears were much smoother and the notchiness went almost straight away. the change from 1st to second to third is great and overall the car feels much better to drive. the gearchanges are much more precise now and it just makes the whole driving experience that much better and enjoyable. all the work on the gearbox over the last 2 weeks has led me to this conclusion. If you have a problem with your gearbox and your not happy 1. If your in warranty complain to your dealer and get some new parts ( hopefully ) 2. change the gearbox oil 3. fit the TRD short shifter for those that dont know the TRD shifter is priced around £200, I got mine from Prolex :winky: apologies if this hasnt helped anyone experiencing similar problems but it looks like the TRD shifter is the only way to finding a proper gearchange.
