  1. As some on here will already know I have started on my Supra TT engine conversion. I will be posting up pics here and also prices so people can see for themselves the cost of doing a project like this. To start I bought a UK spec 2JZ-GTE engine from a breakers yard over here in NI. The engine cost me £1000. This included alternator, starter motor and power steering pump. Unfortunately the engine was already stripped of it's turbos and its fuel rail and injectors . I was told that the engine had covered only 47,000 miles but I take this with a pinch of salt. The Getrag V160 6 speed supra gearbox was a different story. I searched the globe...literally...for one of these gearboxes. There was one on US ebay going for 3000 US dollars but the seller refused to ship it to here. I had several people looking in Japan and I was also asking on Australian forums. Eventually I found a guy on www.mkivsupra.net who had a box sitting. He was going to convert his auto supra to a manual but after a little persuasion he decided he could use the money for other mods so he sold me the box. I paid £1350 for the box with shifter, flywheel and all nuts and bolts. Add on the £150 for delivery to NI and the gearbox cost me a total of £1500 :o Next up was engine mounts! What a nightmare I have had trying to get engine mounts. After a bit of research I found that the mounts from a GS300 fit the 2JZ into the IS perfecty. Problem was that I had also heard otherwise. I know that Matt tried them and they didn't work, from his original thread on the monster. I decided to look into this a bit more. The origin of this claim was from Ray Hall in Australia. For those who haven't heard of Ray Hall turbocharging, he is a very well known and respected person in the tuning community. His work spans the globe covering hundreds of thousands of vehicles and also marine engines. He is the designer and founder of Autronic ECU's. I am currently running one of his Autronic SM4 ECU's in the car. When Ray was contacted by Mark from MADevelopments (Our Autronic supplier) to get some info on doing the conversion, Ray said to use 2 inlet mounts from the GS300. This prompted me to search for any GS300's in breakers yards. In the end I actually ordered 3 sets of engine mounts from different breakers at different times. The reason for this is that on the three seperate occasions the mounts were sent to me by Parcelforce. On all three occasions the deliveries were lost in transit by Parcelforce . I did get my money refunded by all three breakers but it just goes to show how unreliable Parcelforce are. I was never quite sure about the term "inlet" mounts, that Ray had mentioned so I emailed him again to clarify this. He did actually mean that I needed 2 of the same brackets from the passenger side/ inlet side of the car. These needed to be spaced out 6mm from the block on either side. I contacted Toyota and picked up the parts for £130 inc VAT for both. As soon as I had them I test fitted them and they do the job 100%. To add to this they place the engine as far back and as low as it will go which should aid the handling of the car no end. Seeing as I had no turbos, fuel rail or injectors I went searching again. I know that when I mention US ebay while talking about this ther will be some people who will be cringing and saying "those parts are :yack: " I don't care because at the price I paid for the parts I can easily forgive any slight drop in quality. I sourced an XS power T04 single turbo with a stainless polished manifold and also an external 50mm wastegate with all gaskets for....wait for it.....£450 delivered!!!!!!! When the items arrived I was expecting below average quality but everything is so well made. You can clearly see that a lot of time has been spent on the manifold and I cannot find any fault with any of the other items. The turbo is capable of running over 500bhp too!!!! Another kit I found was the fuel rail and injectors. This is a custom fuel rail with a choice of injectors. I selected a set of 960cc black Delphi injectors. This kit cost £470 delivered!!!!! Although these parts may or may not be a long term solution they will get me on the road initially :D Here are a few pics of the work that has been done so far. Some are with a proper camera and some are with my camera phone so the quality and size may vary. This is the standard 1G-FE engine coming out of the car The standard Getrag J160 6 speed IS200 gearbox The empty IS200 engine bay The empty transmission tunnel 2JZ-GTE vs 1G-FE battle for position in my garage First test fit of the 2JZ engine. still hanging on the crane. This was simply to get an idea of the amount of room the engine would take up This is the first proper test fit when I recieved the GS300 mounts. The engine sits perfectly :D The GS300 engine bracket is too thick to allow the stad from the rubber mount to come through. I am getting the brackets machined down so that I can get the nut onto the stud. I do not have any pics of the turbo, manifold fuel rail yet but I will get some and post them soon with more progress :D :D :D
  2. This is good news for me....well sort of... Tesco have filling stations in NI but they don't sell the 99Ron fuel for some reason???? I can buy it from shell but the shell filling stations have been dwindling very very quickly over here. They are all getting replaced by BP or supermarket stations. I think I will wait until BP bring out the equivilant to this as no doubt it will be very soon. Otherwise I could easily find myself with a car mapped for 99ron fuel and be nowhere near a shell station as they are few and far between.
  3. I have an English plate....obviously..... but the car is Northern Ireland registered. Why do you ask? Have done something wrong??? LOL The mini belongs to my missus. It is just a standard NI reg but I have heard that some NI plates can be desirable over in england...dunno why?? The X5 belongs to my dad he got the plate as a present and another one you can't see is my mums Merc CLK convertible which has the reg....TDZ 6. We should really have a personal account with DVLA Thanks for the comments too guys!!
  4. Cheers Aido, i did actually reply to your question the other day lexus is 200 but my PC sh*t itself before I could add the reply:-( What aido said is spot on. The 3rd stage is the carnuba wax which does all the protecting!
  5. Or my nearly complete package!! :D Here have a look here!! My complete turbo system http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/ind...c=34790&hl= Still some more work to do after buying it but deffo much better than SCer and going for buttons too!! Includes full exhaust as well (front to back!) The CD changer doesn't like copied CD's. Apparently the discs are a slightly different size to real CD's and they can get caught in the mechanism.
  6. Try mkivsupra.net There are always some for sale on their and usually pretty well specced too!!
  7. Class!!! He says he is was able to maintain a level of 2000feet for about 30secs!!!! How would you steer it though??
  8. The car looks fantastic Am!! Said it before but I have always liked that car. Is that the standard TRD front lip or is it slightly modified?
  9. You couldn't pay me to put supermarket fuel in my car! I really don't like what I hear about it. But that is a good price for fuel though in todays market.
  10. Not covered in oil, but I did stupidly nearly blow my head off by removing one of the aircon pipes from the pump with out releasing the pressure first Scared the absolute ***** right out of me Just heard a massive bang then a huge long flow of compressed air came out. My whole engine bay was covered in luminous green slime All cleaned up now though To add to this I also previously covered myself in gearbox oil as I pull my propshaft out and forgot to drain the oil first. I was lying under the car at the time so it went all over me and the washing machine still smells of it All because I was doing everything in a hurry
  11. Oooohhhh..thats nasty!!! The top pic looks just like my engine bay at the minute although my gearbox is missing too. sounds like this car is going to be a bit of weapon when it's done.
  12. If you need to give someone access to the car with the key but don't want them to drive it then simply take the immobiliser chip out of the key before you give it to them. Just unscrew the small screw in the key itself and remove the chip inside. The car won't start without the chip!!
  13. Did you do all three stages of the maquiars?? It does work extremely well. Have a look here! http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/ind...iars+stage+deep
  14. I also enquired about that gearbox before and the guys tried to explain to me that the earlier TT supras had a 5 speed manual box. I have been told this is not true. Seems a bit dodgy to me.
  15. Adie, I was running a constant 0.5 bar on mine and the boost actually crept up a bit in higher gears when climbing the rev range. Only ever crept up to about 0.55bar though. Generally, I never had any probs at all although I have not had the car running for more than 6 months with this setup. I, like yourself still think there is not enough info or consistency to make a reliable judgement on possible safe boost pressures. I was gonna raise the boost a step at a time before stripping the car again to see what happened but the bigger 1g-gte injectors I had wouldn't fit so I don't have the fuelling to do it.
  16. The block YES, the work NO. ;) ..... I'll let you know soon :winky:
  17. Terrible news adie, just read back over the thread :o That is now 2 engines that have had rods snap at .8bar!! (Spock too). Seems we are now getting to know the strength of the 1g-fe. You know my engine is coming out as soon as I get the time to do it so I will have all parts including block etc etc available if it is of any use to you. I can also source a full set of 1g-gte rods and pistons (cheap) and fit them to my block aswell which would allow at least 1.2bar of boost to be run safely. This will also have a lower comp ratio too. Just though I would give yo a couple more options buddy!!
  18. Tasty lookin rims there man. But yeah it really needs dropped.
  19. Ah Steve!! Told you I had some plans for the car LOL:-)
  20. Engine will be fine! the boost is too low for any probs but obviously as with ANY car if you drive on the limit all the time it will take its toll!
  21. 19 has beat me!! I give up and am never playing that again:-(
  22. Can somebody do 16 and post a pic of it here???:-(
  23. Good call Noel!!! I also had a similar scare like that and I kept testing and trying my brakes after for about a week, thinking they weren't working right. It could be the electronics (EBA I think it is???? somthin like Electronic Brake Assist) Means when you suddenly hit the brake pedal the ECU automatically applies more pressure than you have applied to compensate for your lack of judgement!!!! I know it sounds stupid but if you have ever driven a new Renault megane you will know what I am on about LOL:-) This system will have kicked in when you were on the motorway but because you may have been testing/trying your brakes after you may be expecting more from them.........if you know what I mean. It's kinda hard to put into words.
  24. I always like to see posts like this!!!! I have no interest as yet in the 2jz lump but any knowledge like this is always good knowledge!! Does this only apply to J-spec engines??????
