ISF on 18inch Track Wheels
Jon Dee replied to Steviebee's topic in Lexus F Club - Lexus IS-F / GS-F / RC-F Club
Not a plan. Doing a bit more checking and measuring, I can see that the combination of 9.5 rear wheel width, 38 offset and ride height meant that the PO could not fit anything wider than 265/30-19 tyres without rubbing. Coilovers are already set to maximum height and I'm not going to roll the guards. So I'll be looking for a new set of wheels with higher offset to move the wheels inwards a little. Cheers... -
I'm currently researching wheel/tyre/suspension combinations for my ISF but need a reference point. My car is on coilovers and aftermarket 19" wheels so I don't know how much lower it is from the factory wheels/tyres/suspension height . If there is someone who is still running the full factory setup, I would be most grateful if you could measure the ride height with the car parked on a level surface. If I could get a measurement from the ground to the top of the fender arch and a measurement from the ground to the hub centre for each wheel, that would be perfect :) Here are the measurements from my (lowered) car for comparison with a totally stock setup: FR 655/313, FL 660/313, RR 656/305, LR 650/305. Thanks in advance Cheers...

2008 ISF factory stock ride height...
EP80 replied to Jon Dee's topic in Lexus F Club - Lexus IS-F / GS-F / RC-F Club
I take it you have read the american forums on this subject? If not, there are quite a few: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/is-f-2008-2014/646113-annoyed-new-coilovers-too-low-3.html In that link is the official way to measure the height, not the most convenient but apparently correct. Various other measurements etc on there. Personally I am going back to standard shocks soon as I don't like coiovers on a daily. -
Everything I've read about poly on LS's have all commented on more NVH. For some it was fine and a welcome improvement (usually combined with coilovers etc), for others it took away from the levels of comfort they were used to, and they either did switch to oem or wanted to. I haven't read once that it was the same as oem.

ISF on 18inch Track Wheels
Jon Dee replied to Steviebee's topic in Lexus F Club - Lexus IS-F / GS-F / RC-F Club
Yes... my car has close to 200,00km and 15 years on rubber bushings and all moving parts, so I will be looking to see what needs refreshing in the suspension linkages. I'll also be looking at the HKS coilovers to see if they have a problem. The PO mistakenly ran them set at full hard from the time of installation, and that may have caused some damage. I have the OEM shocks assemblies, but given the criticism levelled at them back in 2008, I intend to install Bilsteins instead of reusing the OEM units. ubersonic I had to look up VDIM to see what that was Seems that keeping wheel speeds front and rear close to the same is likely the most important input. That is something I will keep in mind when I make a decision on tires. The combination that you suggested above would be OK by me... a bit more sidewall is good for comfort Cheers... -

Hey dude. I'm on 275 35 18's. Square set up all round as the guys I know that do autocross in the States all rate the square set up which eliminates understeer. In fact, from vendors to those doing track days and autocross, I don't know of any on staggered set ups. I'm 9.5 wide all round and I'd say the 275's are a nice all-rounder. There might be better evidence out there that the stock sizes are better, but I'm yet to see it. I know I put the power down better with wider rears and the handling for our twistie B roads here in the UK is spot on, so I can only talk from what I have. I'm currently on BC coilovers which have been corner weighted and balanced. They're not my preferred option but due to availability and previous experience, plus my OEM shocks were on their way out, I needed a quick fix. I have to say they're performing well at the moment. -
ISF on 18inch Track Wheels

Thanks Rich... I'll have to get under the car to see if the bushes have already been upgraded by the PO. Doing the research it seems that getting 18" wheels means getting custom forged "racing" wheels and they are kind of pricey !!! So I am also looking at how I can improve the ride retaining the existing 19" WORK Kiwami wheels (8.5 35P and 9.5 38P). Car is on HKS coilovers with 35 series front. and 30 series rear, and that no doubt is part of the problem. At the moment the ride is fine on smooth tarmac but as soon as the surface changes to anything rough the crashing and banging drives me crazy !!! I'm not expecting to get a limo ride, just to quieten it down so that every bump is not accompanied by banging and rattling suggesting that the wheels are about to fall off I figure that as the Bilsteins will raise the car a little I will be able to put taller tires on the 19"s without getting any rubbing. If that works it may be an easier solution than trying to get hold of 18 inch wheels. Lots of options to consider Cheers... -
I'm about to lower my is200 (04) with some hsds coilovers and was speaking to someone at caffine and machine this Tuesday night and they mentioned something that I should buy that will stop the upper arms from hitting the top mount or body when I lower it. He mentioned it was only like £100 or something like wise. Anyone know what this is. I for some reason didn't make note or remember the dude. Anyone know. Idk if its RCAs or like modded spindles.

Renovation project with SC430 - new colour on the car!
NICO1972 replied to NICO1972's topic in Lexus SC430 Club
Hi, We are still waiting for new suspensions (Meister R coilovers) to arrive, so there is a slight delay to finish it. The car should now be ready for Friday due to the delay. Limitless Detailing UK team put decal Lexus Logo on the bottom vinyl panel to match the original vinyl Logo, they even fixed my magnetic buttons in back seats! Primed calipers and painted them and decal Lexus Logo... the fuel cap is sitting in exact position, so this has been fixed. In the meantime, feel free to see photos. They tryluly speak for themselves... -
Renovation project with SC430 - new colour on the car!

Hi everyone, Quick update with a few photos! Full PPF is being applied. It takes a lot of time, from what I have been told. The rear bumper, rear hood, front bumper has PPF applied and it is done meticulously. When PPF is fully applied, ceramic coating will then be the next step. I can confirm that the work is being done by Limitless detailing UK and they are based near North circular towards Park Royal. I can tell you that they are doing the job with absolute precision and care. I am very impressed. The next jobs will be after full PPF is applied on the external paint: - Interior work vinyl parts to be PPF, leather seats will be treated with a transparent protection. Throttle Controller to be fitted (from MODSC430). - spacers to be installed on all four wheels, Michelin Sports Pilot PS4 to be fitted and all wheels to be realigned. - New OEM suspension to be fitted to keep car as original but a better comfort and handling. We have been viewing a few makes but we may stick with Lexus OEM new set of suspensions. I did see Meister suspension Coilovers (link: stronghttps://id-workz.co.uk/products/meisterr-zetacrd-coilovers-for-lexus-sc430-uzz40-01?variant=41615271559326¤cy=GBP&utm_medium=product_sync&utm_source=google&utm_content=sag_organic&utm_campaign=sag_organic&gclid=Cj0KCQjwz8emBhDrARIsANNJjS4KXHualy1aoxK-2EAly-GMIJKL4qW8I-1iJPEYSOPM9vcao_5cHg0aAmxxEALw_wcB) Unless anyone has a very recommendation, please do let me know! I really want to get this car right with handling on our very poor roads in UK... -
Painted Callipers, what a ballache
J Henderson replied to HoofHearted's topic in Lexus IS 300h / IS 250 / IS 200t Club
Kind of a funny one this... When shopping for insurance last time out, I found the quotes could actually get lower when declaring that the windows were tinted. Work that one out! In any event, I don't declare my tints or anything else I've done to my car. As far as I'm concerned I haven't changed anything that would warrant claiming extra for. ie: I have different wheels than it came with stock, but they are still LEXUS ones, and exactly the same size and spec. If I was slammed on coilovers, had a set of £2K+ JDM wheels, or had upsized to 19" or something, then yes of course I would declare that (and did, when I had ISF wheels on a few years ago). But if one of my windows gets smashed in a bump, or by a thief I wouldn't be expecting the cost of re-tinting the glass to be met by the insurance company. If painting calipers is considered an "offence" in the insurers eyes, I would guess there are literally hundreds of thousands of uninsured cars on the road today. -
I tend to agree with both comments above, you really need to drive one to see if the car suits you, but for me it was F-Sport or nothing as the wheels, bumper and dash make all the difference IMO. When i was ordering my car i test drove a non F-sport model as they had no f-sport demonstrators available, the ride was a tad softer mainly due to the smaller higher profile starsky n Hutch tyres. How harsh a car feels is all relative to what your used to, my other car is a DC2 Integra type-R, slammed on coilovers with about 11 additional brace bars, so my F-sport feels like a hot air balloon as i waft along to work on a morning. IS250 - New beginning (bit of an ongoing "project")

The BC Racing coilovers are on. The ride height is much better, but I can't lower it anymore with the current wheel/tyre setup. That being said I couldn't avoid rubbing on the front arches, so the dremel will have to come out so I can cut a little bit of the arch liner that catches. However, as low as it may seem, I can clear regular speed bumps without scraping (even head-on), so practicality hasn't gone out of the window...yet. -

🧐 Looks like a 3D light strobe design. I like it!. Did you go for the red or clear ones? Don’t tell me. Just fit em and post it up. BC coilovers are nice. Adjustable damping and height. It’s coming together very nicely Lucas 🫡 -
Hi all, I have had my IS now for just over a month and one thing i have noticed is that the suspension is very harsh. It may be a result of the utterly terrible roads that are about and coming from a GS is making it much more noticeable. The car has full service history and there is nothing stating any issues with the shocks so i dont think there is a problem with that just a fair bit harsher than the Luxobarge GS450h.. Anyway, looking to the future has anyone managed to get a softer ride using ajustable shocks/coilovers or are the Luxury/Premier shocks/springs a straight swap considering they are aimed at comfort over sportyness? Any help is appreciated.

Haha, soon! Picked up BC Racing coilovers today, so they’ll be going on.. maybe as soon as Tuesday after work if I can be bothered. I also ordered tail lights. Something slightly different to what I’ve seen on people’s cars. Vland headlights are also on the way. -
A few Lexuses and others at a local Japanese show
Spottedlaurel replied to Spottedlaurel's topic in Lexus General Discussions
Thanks Barney. Your SportCross looked very nice, was it a 200 or 300? An now RX fills the gap left by a couple of much-missed Camry estates - sadly there aren't many big, modern Japanese estates to choose from. By coincidence, the day you posted your message I was at the second East Coast Japanese show of the year. A selection from this time around: Late Mk4 looked tidy. I was pleased to see the other early LS400 and compare it with mine, as suspected it is a Mk2 and I now know how to spot a few of the differences (most of them internal). This particular one is now on coilovers, with air suspension due to be fitted soon. The owner fits stainless steel Powerflow exhausts for a living, it'll be good to get mine along to someone who knows about the LS. Trio of 6th gen Celicas. I'd be happy to have a 2-litre model someday. RX-7 looked smart, certainly good inspiration for a future 1/24 model build. A few MR2s there. Hopefully daughter's boyfriend will get his there at some point. A couple of different Crown estates in attendance again. I had a good look at the other one, certainly something to think about. Modified GT-R another one that is something I'll be recreating at 1/24 scale at some point. I'd have been very happy to take this Prelude home. This one is the 4-wheel steering model. Not just newer/sportier models came along. This Carina dates from 1971, it's platform being shared with the Celica. -
Seems reasonable for 'custom'. Yeah I looked at lowering springs and it was just not feasible for your mentioned reasons. I managed to swipe some HSD coilovers from driftworks on one of their sales with 15% off, so was worth the purchase. I came down around 30mm, but think now with the lip kit I will come back up a little as I don't fancy ripping it off on first drive out 😅 and see how it goes.

The cost of custom springs would be about £100 each. Off the shelf lowering springs are available from overseas, but would end up costing more, by the time VAT and duty is included. HSD coilovers are about £700, but obviously include shock absorbers and are adjustable. BC coilovers are dearer. I will fit the wheels, with 15mm spacers, and see how it looks first.
