  2. That's strange, is the car an import? Do the V5C documents for the cars show any Exhaust Emissions figures? Try the London ULEZ checker and see what answer that gives. I'll let you know if I manage to get mine sorted out for Scotland.
  3. I tried the Glasgow number, but they just referred me back to the general enquires centre who I've already emailed. Thanks anyway.
  4. I'm guessing this is the secondary immobiliser that Lexus Insurance fitted to cars for a while, back in, I want to say 2021/22. It's to help get around the Canbus vulnerability as I understand it. There are a few things to be aware of with it; Don't sit in the car for long periods without starting (10 mins was what I was told, but the documentation says longer), else it will trigger the immobiliser. However, if/when it does, you will get a message Hybrid System Stopped or similar from memory when you try to start the car. If this happens, just open the drivers door and close it and then try starting again (or get out, close and lock the car and open/get in again). If all else fails, take the fob apart, including removal of the battery and there is a USB stick in it, insert this into the USB ports in the arm rest and try starting again. Batteries in ours lasted a decent while, but started to play up so replaced them and all was good in the world. This is the user guide (assuming it's the same thing); https://download.avmap.it/tis/manuals/Immobilizer_PIN4i_UserManual.pdf ETA; as far as I'm aware, not a tracker, just immobiliser. Doesn't require registering, just needs the keyfob thing to be in the car with you.
  5. I know the later LS430 cars are shown as compliant. I think the problem is that in 2000 when my car was registered, the DVLA were not recording the emissions figures for new cars. That is why my V5C registration document is blank in the Exhaust Emissions sections V1,V2 and V3. Does the V5C document for your 2002 car have any data in the Exhaust Emissions section?
  6. Just had an email from Lexus Insurance saying it's now a condition of renewal on our NX300h to have a 'Secondary Approved Immobiliser' and need to call to confirm what options there are. I would hope that having had them fit their recommended one a couple of years back, this will just be a formality, but, slightly concerning, the list of approved manufacturers from Thatcham and TASSA that they share links to, doesn't include the manufacturer of the immobiliser that they fitted.. Guess I'll need to call and find out. Assume others will get this message too on renewal.
  7. Lexus navigation is abysmal, which is why there's always lots of talk about Android Auto or Apple Car Play, because of the superior mapping and navigation available. If you really insist on torturing yourself by using the Lexus nav, you can use postcode search on Page 2 of the nav screen.
  8. The 2013 2014 models are notorious for failing water pumps. Mine failed in the centre at the bearing. I have heard of a few others failing at the bearing as well. Lexus later had a new part number for the stretch belt. So one hypothesis is that the older belt was causing the bearings to wear prematurely causing leaks.

  10. Mind has just passed again at: https://lowemissionzones.scot/vehicle-registration-checker
  11. Just a quick one....is there any way to switch navigation from co-ordinate based under address, to post code based on the RX4 or do you just need to enter the house name/nr with a space, followed by the postcode? My RX3 menu was different and specified post code.I know I have the choice of Waze or Apple maps with an iphone connected but if I didn't want to use the phone and use the standard navigation it'd be handy to know.
  12. Just tried my 2005 LS430 and it say NO, how is this possible haha
  13. Hi John, their website is not the most helpful to be honest! But you could try narrowing this down to the area most relevant to you: Aberdeen: aberdeencity.gov.uk/services/roads-transport-and-parking/low-emission-zone Dundee: dundeecity.gov.uk/lez Edinburgh: edinburgh.gov.uk/lez Glasgow: glasgow.gov.uk/LEZ Glasgow City Council LEZ Enquiry and Payment Line: 01412871072 (Option 1 for payment. Option 2 for all other enquiries).
  14. Just put my 2002 430 into the Scottish ULEZ checker and is says YES all OK???? I reckon it is because the car was made with California in mind.
  15. Fuse is OK. When you pull the switch out, it makes slightly soft 'squishy' noise, just once.
  16. Thanks guys for the info. I have no experience of Yuasa batteries, apart from in security alarms so I'll spec one next time. I was a little dismayed to discover they'd fitted a Varta - I've always gone for Bosch on German cars in the past. I had a chat with Wheel Gods in Bolton yesterday. They do some amazing things with trashed alloys and if that sort of thing interests you, you should check out their website. Long story short, two of my wheels are showing signs of corrosion in places around the rim, and all four are looking tatty. He told me they can't remove the corrosion entirely, but they can mitigate it and suggested that the best colour to spray them so they look pretty much new is Anthracite. I think that would look reasonable against the Jewish Racing Beige body colour, so that is a possibility. They'd need the car for three days (or I get the wheels to them) and I was quoted £75 per corner plus £20 per centre cap plus VAT, which doesn't sound unreasonable and keeps the old girl period specific.
  17. Just to update, with the car started and the engine stopped after it's initial run, I disconnected the plug from the Throttle Body and the noise stopped, so this is the source. Appreciate this is considered normal (and probably just never noticed before as I typically only pop the hood when the engine is off). Please note only do this if you have an OBD tool to reset the DTC code and clear the orange engine warning light from the dash. Car booked in for next Friday for the water pump investigation and hopefully replacement before the car reaches 10 years and Relax is up (well it is only just turning 9 so next year). Seems regardless of miles (only 39k) at the very least the pump seal has perished. Possibly the number 1 area to monitor for any of those with an aging IS, plus 12v battery charge and voltage level (easily done by holding the Menu button + 3 clicks to sidelight to bring up the Vehicle Signal diagnostic menu). If the voltage in Accessory mode is at least 12v after fully charging the battery, seems to be an indicator that you won't get stuck with the Hybrid System refusing to boot.
  18. Greetings, My 2019 IS300H is fitted with 18" wheels and I'm wondering about changing them to 17's. Just a thought, but maybe someone is looking to change to 18's. Is this the right place to ask? Mine are the grid style "premium" wheel on original Bridgestones at 20k.
  19. another vote for Goodyear Asymmetric summer tyres, the bridgestones that come with the car i didnt like at all, tried contis also not enough grip at the back, the Goodyear Asymmetric seem to keep the back wheels in check in the wet and i have kept using the same tyres ever since (they do update these tyres were number on the end changes every so often).
  20. Just found this: https://fuse-box.info/lexus/lexus-ls430-xf30-2000-2006-fuses-and-relay
  21. I know this has been done before but I wondered if there is any new thinking on it. 2002 LS430 steering wheel goes up and down but not in and out. I would be happy to set it manually and leave it there. At present it is stuck deep in the dashboard, i.e. the starting point. Is it possible to take the cover off and wind it out with a spanner till it is where I want it. I seem to remember a video on this some where. Also which and where, is the fuse for this? Although as the up and down works I suspect it is OK.
  22. I add myself to this party: from the £750 i was paying this last year i just got a renewal price (no claims or incidents) of over £1,100 !!! I will be looking elsewhere but it seems I'm gonna feel scammed no matter what, every day of the coming year.
  23. Hey there the car is fine, feels all right, I remember when i did the front bushings the steering felt a bit more connected to the tarmac and a bit less "floaty" but dont expect radical change what i can say is that the tyre wear issue isn't happening. I have not measured accurately but it looks like they're wearing evenly. If I remember to measure with the thread depth gauge I will update the post! On the rear, there isnt' much to do unless you install camber arms to correct camber, but what i read is that the uneven tyre wear issue was mostly on the front tyres.
  24. This is something I’ve never had to try, but is apparently a solution to a low battery level causing the key not to be detected: Simply push the start button by pressing the Lexus logo on the key fob against it. Presumably actual contact enables the system to recognise the fob.
  25. I'm currently running at 44mpg. I'm going to give VPower a go next fill up.
  26. Please update the thread to let us know how you get on with the dealer 🙂
