Aluminium Valve Caps

I have aluminium dust caps on my wheel valves. One of my tyres lost some air and I couldn't get my dust cap off. I called out the AA and neither could they. I had to take my tyre to Quickfit and have the valve cut off. Does anyone know of a way to have them on without them sticking or do I have to put plastic dust caps on all my valves? TIA

i suspect that you couldnt get the valve cap off because it was corroded on, this would be caused by differential metal corrosion.

You can HELP prevent this in future by:

getting brass dust caps that are chrome plated ( if you want the shiny look)

or before you put on the aluminium dust cap apply a little bit of grease/vaseline to the threads of the valve, but try not to get it on the rubber as it will over time destroy the rubber.
