Help - Dead Muffler How to get it fixed cheap!

Recommended Posts

Hi,
So basically had a mechanic look at my car and the knocking sound coming from the back turns out to NOT be
the shocks, but the muffler has corroded as is loose.

So I need a new muffler to replace it, but Lexus been Lexus only sell it attached to the CAT which they charge
£1600 for.... but my CAT is fine. I just need the cheap bit attached to the CAT!

Does anyone know of a specialist who can do a custom repair like this? It should be fairly simple to replace it
with another mufflers.

Alternatively if anyone knows where I can get the CAT a lot cheaper, that would also be good.

Strange I thought I thought the front box was a resonator was a resonator. How ever there are many companies now that will repair exhaust  usually with stainless parts at realistic prices.

Cheers, am trying to find one.

Would love a proper description of all the bits but I'm just going off what the mechanic said 🙂

The front box is a resonator, and the rear boxes are silencers. Muffler is an Americanism for silencer.

John.

Thanks, that really useful all. Didn't even know modern cars had a resonator!

Will give Toyotatech a try, thanks Roy. Was just in the process of phoning around local garages to see if anyone can help.

Well he couldn't help, but he thinks hes knows a man who can 🙂

Sometimes finding someone to fix something is like a scooby doo mystery!

Fairly sure the resonator is going to turn out to be Mr. Harrison in disguise! 🤣

Many thanks again

Brighton Grove Garage do Powerflow stainless exhausts, and have a giant Lexus specialist sign above their door. Plus owner has a GS450h, albeit with a dead Battery.

Do not just roll up unannounced as parking is a nightmare!
