Cleaning The Engine Bay

Right, in preparation for gaydon on sunday, i have allowed all day tomorrow to clean the Lex, and i noticed the engine bay is absolutley minging at the mo, so that needs doing too.

Problem is..............

I don't have a steam cleaner.

I know i can just use a rag etc to do it, but what about rinsing it all out with a hose pipe first? will that do it any harm?

I've always been uncertain about cleaning the engine bay, as my mate did his car once, and it caused an electrical problem with the car until it dried out properly.

Advice?

Did my engine bay yesterday and all i did was to get engine up to temp, not hot just warm, then with a bucket of soapy water vigourously clean all the paint work then spray all the engine and parts with a de-greaser,hose off gently dry it off then start cleaning all the plastic bits with back to black...works a treat

Bling....bling!!

Hi Stu,

Run your engine until warm, then while keeping the engine running, spray a degreaser or engine cleaner, got mine from the big "H", leave for a couple of minutes and then just use a normal presure washer if availble, otther wise use a rag, will take a lot longer but will do roughly the same job but not as good.

That's how I've done mine, looks very clean now, scared to use her in case the engine bay gets dirty -:lol:

Stu, as Scorpion says use Gunk degreaser.

There is another called Jizer which I used. Just a thought, but could you not use the jet wash at a forecourt to clean the engine after you have sprayed on the degreaser?
