Exhaust Replacement SC 430 2002

Good Evening All,

Thank you so much for those who have assisted me so far as a new member.Water ingress to the footwell was resolved by flushing out in the drain hole in the lower sill O/S and did the trick.

Have yet to use the Honda Shin Etsu grease on all rubber seals, bought 2 tubes and waiting for the Cumbrian weather to improve before I-apply this treatment( to all seals eg doors, boot, roof etc)thanks for this advise.

I asked a Lexus dealer to provide an estimate how much it would cost to replace the entire exhaust system.I needed smelling salts to bring me round!! The estimates was 5400k.I asked an independent garage to check the condition and his view was to replace from the cat/ converter to the silencer was necessary at this stage.Has any member had bespoke  stainless steel replacements made or indeed similar replacements  and if so which company and if you don’t mind me asking the comparative costs.Any experiences on the exhaust front also very welcome.

On other matters I am considering to replace the aux/fan belt, cam belt which is somewhat over due,at the same time would you advise replacing the water pump at the same time? (Milage 69k now)

My wife and I just love the car it is quite a joy to drive, and yes I did allow her to drive it!! (WELL ONCE)

Many Thanks Graham.

Ps.Bought a half cover from Classic Additions which cost 105 pounds and is very high quality.

I would recommend changing the water pump and auxiliary belt at the same time. It’s a tick in the box for peace of mind.

There are specialists out there, speak to your local garage, they may recommend a reputable firm.

Graham,

Sorry I don’t know anyone up your way, but I have recently had  mine replaced at my local stainless exhaust place from the 3rd cat back (where the 2 front pipes join) in stainless and I paid £900.

That should give you an idea wether you need part or full system.

I also went for 2 separate rear boxes as opposed to the original 1

Yes Bob you are right, I had mine replaced from the front cats back at Tony Banks in Leeds specialist exhaust fabricators and the workmanship is superb.

It was about £900 and I chose which tailpipes, single or twin each side, also which chrome finishers I wanted from a selection they have.

Apparently they have done a dozen or so SC430's so that gave me the confidence they would know what they were doing!

They did mine in about 5 hours while I went into Leeds City centre to pass some time.

It included a new middle cat and is guaranteed for as long as you have the vehicle. Also if it is a standard looking exhaust there would be no awkward questions in the event of making an insurance claim.

If gentle on the throttle it bubbles like a V8 should but if you put your foot hard down it really sounds fabulous. At a £1 a smile I must have had over 900!

Hi Anthony, out of interest how much do you hear your exhaust with the roof and windows up? With my straight through muffler delete I do hear the exhaust every time I touch the throttle. Whereas when I am not touching the accelerator I don’t here the exhaust at all.

Hi.

Hopefully you wouldn't but if you did have any issues with insurance for the fitment of a non standard exhaust system then please feel free to drop me a line.

Regards,

Dan.

I told my insurance company I had aftermarket wheels and exhaust mod. No extra charge but there always seems an admin charge.
