The GS3 cabin filter holder is over engineered & moves down on a electric mech when in a certain mode unlike the static GS4 so maybe someone tried to force it down to replace it.

Have you asked the Seller Hazel ?

Good point, I have not. But he claimed no knowledge of the dozen or so Wherthers trapped in the cup holder door...

Contact Lexus there is a repair kit for this I had this happen on  my old Gs300 the glove box needs to come out,

I did document it in a post a few years ago 2012 or so ,

The problem it causes is that you have no control over Recirc and fresh it mostly drops the flap which puts it in Recirc

Sometimes if you accelerate sharp the flap pivots and makes a Slapping sound and goes to Fresh intake then drops back to recirc

Hazel

If you have just bought the car from a dealer get him to put it right he may have serviced it and changed that cabin filter without putting into the Recirc Mode to change the filter(if not the flimsy arm on that lever breaks)

Its a few years ago but it cost 25 for the Lever and shaft and 50 for fitting took 30 mins

I started digging to uncover the mystery.

20230508_121117.thumb.jpg.fdd21ce8e37d2c817a158d7a83cc598c.jpg

And found the actuator to the recirc diverter was missing its lever.

However the lever is fine, it is the pin for the recirc diverter that broke.

I managed to remove the fan motor section. Some a few hours of excavating and pulling, then I had to repair the bits I broke.

20230508_135908.thumb.jpg.af0f25749c01a7256ed696e726386f40.jpg

and of course fix the bits the previous idiot broke...

20230508_144232.thumb.jpg.7a27f98f1a0016c55ccb8e32fee8ca15.jpg

Some PP welding at 300c later...

20230508_153904.thumb.jpg.854be020279d52b2953c379b8ee51d51.jpg

Test assembly, required quite a bit of fettling on the repaired diverter axle.

Now  the trick to reinstalling (without removing the dash and making this a three day ordeal) is to assemble the parts under the dash.

20230508_162150.thumb.jpg.5b26736e360eeaf66590ae956174ba6c.jpg

then clip together and screw the diverter section on.

Then of course install the diverter actuator and the arm, and all the many ECUs and other wiring. This was a very challenging repair, and I have yet to commission it.
