48 mpg on sports mode

Hi all,

Recently did a road trip to Royal Tunbridge Wells and did a test on the different drive modes and saw some amazing mpg results.

I normally get around 47.8 mpg driving in normal mode. So before setting off after refueling, I reset the mpg and set off and drove only in sports mode at 60-70 mph and after the journey it showed 48 mpg.

Which is impressive. The power response is much better in sports mode.

I was expecting to see a lower mpg but it seems it stayed around the same mark when I drive in normal mode.

Doesn't surprise me as there is no more power in Sport mode, it's just how it's made available. If one drives as one always does, the fact one has to depress the throttle slightly less for the same progress, will give the same economy.

My RC300h be it in Sport or Normal mode always returned the same(ish) mpg unless I was 'enjoying' myself....

In my experience with RX, Sport mode forces thermal engine to stay ON even at low speed, probably to be ready to give power if needed in fast acceleration; at higher constant speed, when engine is already on,  mpg are not different from normal mode.

In ECO mode, mpg are a bit better because this mode use other strategies to limit energy waste, like AC management and a "sleepy" performance.

My usual mode is Normal, as when I set Sport mode I like to have some fun not considering fuel spare.
