2014 Gs300h strange vibration issue

Hi all.

I have a 2014 gs300h that is having a very odd sensation when driving. The best way I can describe it as an engine vibration/wobble  when driving. It feels like a pulley wobble and only occurs when driving.

The sensation is not transmitted to the steering at all but it's felt through the chassis, I have had the tracking done as well as a new set of Tyres to no avail.

There is a pulley to the right as you look at the engine bay that has a very little bit of play in it but I don't know if it's related. As a matter of interest what does that pulley drive?

I also noticed the heatshield is also loose put seems from what I have read is a design feature rather than an issue

This is driving me nuts at the moment so any help greatly appreciated.

Is this only at a specific speed or engine rpm? Always done it or just started?

There was an issue with the IS300h but haven't heard it affects the GS300h.

hi all

thanks fro the help. It's been ongoing for a while and i put it down to old tyres so i was hoping that new tyres would cure the problem but no joy. ther is no wobble at speed or under braking  and at lower speeds ( sub 50kph) its not an issue but is consistent  when up at 100-120kph, it really does feel like somewhere in the drivetrain/chassis something is askew.

I have read the link as poitned out by colinbarker and some of it is similar to my case so i need to contact my Lexus dealer and see if it apples or not.

no i havent been able to get it resolved , i have been to a few garages/tyre centers  ( non Lexus ) and while they acknowledge "something is there" they can'nt pin point it , so iam just living with it at the moment.

whats more annoying is that i  have a 2008 Avensis that drives without any issues and sails along.

Someday when i can afford it i will drop it into a Lexus dealer, as a matter of interest what model/year/mileage do you have ?

GS 2015 with 120k km. I have checked my propshaft coupling last night, now I wonder if those cracks may be the reason.

hi cosmin,

I will check the  ones on my car and see how they compare. I wouldn't know if this cracks would affect the drive train so i will leave that to someone more knowledgable

That coupling disc (giubo) also acts as a damper for torsional vibrations. If it's getting cracks in the rubber it may be starting to fail, and can contribute to all kinds of strange driveline vibrations. Well worth having it checked out.

Hi,

 

I have been doing a bit more research and if that rubber giubo fails Lexus only sells the total  Propshat and not just the bushing alone 😒 as far as i have been able to determine.

Yeah thats true, I've been to breakers and they had some propshaft assemblys but they all those cracks there, but they seem to be on a part of the guibo that has really thin rubber , not part of the thick rubber itself. I kinda doubt now those cracks are the reason for vibrations, maybe the center bearing that connects the propshaft in the middle but that can't be seem unless you take it down.

Having a bit of a look around the internet it seems that Toyota use the same guibo on a whole range of vehicles and production years. Not being familiar with your vehicle, I have no idea if this is helpful or not. The attached pic shows one item that is on a lot of Toyota cars. I'd suggest if you have a bit of spare time, you hunt down a specialist driveshaft and gearbox workshop and ask if they can help you out. Maybe take some measurements and a couple of good pics of your giubo with you. If you have two giubo's on the driveshaft, check if they are the same or different sizes.
