LS430 rusty door skin.

Featured Replies

Hi

I want to remove the plastic panel at the bottom of the door so I can treat the rust bubbles on the door. It isn't at all obvious to me how it comes off. Any advice gratefully received.

Essentially, remove the covers for the 4 nuts and then remove the 4 nuts.
Then pry the panel off carefully using plastic pry tools.
When re-installing clean off the old double-sided tape and put new double sided tape on it before refitting.
Then fit and tighten the 4 nuts and fit the nut covers.
It's entirely possible that one or more of the clips will break so gently does it.

Maybe of interest. Takes about 20 minutes. You need a craft knife to cut through the double sided pads. Door is actually sound but rust has formed where the skin has been pierced for the trim clip.

It's unusual to find that sort of thing, especially on a Lexus!

there have been several posts in times past on here about the rust bits forming on the doors under the trims .. especially the middle of the door trims on the Ls400 and 430

Search and ye shall find ...  no doubt  😇

I stand corrected. I will check carefully when I remove the panels before the respray.

This repair won't involve a spray gun !

Ground back until I reached fresh metal. Looks like this. Then hammerite and when that has dried some waxoyl before the cover goes back on. The opposite of concourse but it has stopped the rust.

It would also be a good idea to remove the inner door trim and treat the inside as well, otherwise the rust might reappear. Access might be tricky though.
