Average mpg

Hello,

Been driving the ls600hl daily and average mpg round town is 15 to 17 mpg, but don't understand not getting much over 20mpg on the motorway, the rev counter is about 1.2k rpm and not driving in sport.

Any ideas how to improve the mpg on the motorway?

Are you looking at instant MPG or average MPG? The LS600h should be getting around 30Mpg(UK) (instant) at a constant 70Mph.

Tried the motorway today and reset the average mpg, Was getting 33 mpg at steady 70 mph, but settled for 29mpg in the end this includes incline etc, so all ok

The trip computer may not be that accurate, filling the tank to the brim, refilling and calculating manually is a more accurate method.

Yes that is the way I have always do it, but it was good to see the average mpg move from the usual 1)7.8 mpg!

“Filling the tank to the brim” I asked about this at my local Esso garage but apparently unlike DFS they do not offer pay nothing for the first year then take 4 years interest free credit 😀

An update...

Today, on the motorway, steady 70mph, normal mode, ac on, tyre pressure all 36psi, switched on cruise (first time) and got steady 33mpg and then went upto 37mpg on 60mph.Great.

I know these reads are not the accurate way, but to me it is the right message my car is on running right.

Please note, I changed both air filters and also did the de-carbon.

Was going to do spark plugs, but will now leave this to when the next service is due!

Filled petrol to the top

200 miles of mix motorway and town driving (say 50/50).

AC on , someimes time heated seats and heated steering wheel on. Sometimes car with engine idle (15 mins or more) so driving is as normal as can be,...filled petrol to the top again  and it cost me £49.60 at £1.37.per ([litre)

So is that average 22mpg? Or 25mpg?

Very happy with that.

It's winter so expect to see better MPG in summer.
