Servicing opinions please

Last year the ISF had its minor service, before that ( 2022 ) was the 60K Major service.  Bearing in mind that , due to other commitments, the car only did 600 miles since the latest minor service and was SORNed over winter, what do you think I should do?  It is going back on the road from June 2nd for 6 months.

I.  Have the car serviced at a cost of approx £800.

2.  Don't bother with the service due to the very low miles and just have the obligatory MOT done. Saving £800.

I am leaning towards the latter option as I don't think the car will need a service after such low use and showing no issues.

I'd go for MOT only, many cars have a 2-year service interval these days anyway so I don't think you need an oil change after 1-year and 600 miles.

Hi

I couldn't find which cars have a 2 year interval for an oil change, especially a high performance vehicle. Do you know which cars are on the 2 year plan?

My sons BMW 1-series is 2-years / 15,000 miles, similar age vehicle, fundamentally it's the same technology.  Yes ISF is a high performance car so if you red line every gear change then an oil change would be a good idea, normal driving I think it would be fine.

I thought that BMW had removed time based servicing. According to BMW, they service vehicles according to 'condition' rather than a set time period. 

From BMW UK - BMW discontinued fixed service intervals way back in 1982 and replaced them with servicing based on the vehicle's condition. Sensors and special algorithms take into account your BMW's different operating conditions. Condition Based Service (CBS) works out current and future service requirements

If it had a major service and spark plugs changed during the 60k service. I'd just do an oil and filter. Low mileage means the oil can become contaminated with fuel from cold starts and not getting up to temperature

A 2 year gap between services might put off a future buyer (despite the nominal mileage), if you ever try to sell it.

An oil change in-between would dampen such fears. It would work for me anyway, even a DIY one if there's evidence of the oil & filter purchase.

Maybe get whoever does the MOT to also swap the oil, so there's a paper trail?

Thanks everyone. This leads me to the conclusion that an oil and filter change would do the trick ( and ease my conscience ).

The car is driven old granny style anyway and only very occasionally gets to highish revs and only then for the sake of an "Italian tune-up" to keep things flowing.

I will get the correct Lexus oil and filter spec and get the MOT station ( sports car specialist garage ) to do the job.  Consensus says Full synthetic 5W30  --  10  Litres!!!?

I'm not sure of the current set up but when I bought a new Porsche Cayman in 2007,it and the 911 range were on a 2 year servicing cycle.....just as well,given the servicing costs.
