Lexus Sat Nav Problems

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Just taken delivery of a 2yr old IS300 (great car, lots of fun) but the Lexus sat nav lets it down. DVD says its Version 1 and I can believe that as the maps seem about 4-5 years out of date.

I'm unable to get any sort of answer from Lexus about just how current the current DVD's are or if its worth the investment updating.

I'd also like to know if the software has improved as its not that great at choosing the correct route despite several attempts at changing the various speed profiles.

If any one has the dirt on Lexus sat nav I'd be grateful for an overview.

Thanks in advance.

Bob

Most probably DVD based.

If you take it to your local lexus dealer, you can try the latest DVD.

if it is DVD based, you can buy the Bristtish disc(with the whole of europe on it)

Downside is, i have never seen one cheaper that a ton.

All DVD based systems cover Europe as standard.

The CD based systems require separate discs

  • 3 weeks later...

I have a 1998 LS400 with a CD based Sat Nav System.

Any idea where I can get the CD's for Ireland and France?

I've tried everywhere it seems.

I am even thinking of buying a Toyota DVD unit which I am told is the same as the Lexus unit but I am worried that it will not display correctly or that I can operate it from my CD based screen/console.

Has anyone tried this?

Thanks,

Irina

Hi

Can someone confirm that the toyota nav DVDs will work in a Lexus (i.e. SC430)?

My dealer says no, but here I've read that it is possible...

Thanks for your advice.

The Toyota and Lexus discs are the same. That is why they stopped printing the Lexus logo on the discs so they only have to produce one type. Your dealer isn't going to admit that though.

However there are different types of Nav unit which use different types of discs. As you can see in the part numbers above they are very close (only 2 numbers out which means there have been two updates). If the part number are very different e.g. 86271-70v311a and 86271-83v432 then the disc will not work. Also remember there are 3 part numbers (two on the disc and one on the case) so make sure you compare the correct ones together.
