Shipping Cars From The Usa

Hi,

Just curious, has anyone on these forums shipped a (new) Lexus from the States?

The only reason I ask is if you look at the new GS300's available in the US and then take into account the different options available. By the time you spec the car to the same standard that's avaialable over here (the SE-L for example) you save around £11,000 on list price (obviously more than that by the time you get a dealer discount)

I can't believe that it would cost anywhere near that to crate one up and send it over the waves to Blighty !! The only problem may be that Mr Brown and his band of thieves will want their Vicious Appalling Tax (VAT) but I just wondered what the costings would be....??????

The fact that it would be a left-hooker would put a lot of people off.

Doesn't help the re-sale value.

I think you need to add something like 30% on top of the cost for importing a vehicle from the US (import duty) - don't quote me on that though.

Doesn't seem so cheap when you add it all up.

  • 4 weeks later...

a guy i work with has just come back from america (married) and is a complete petrol head - he is lookind at bringing over a mustang - it retails for $19,000 and to ship here is £800 - the draw back is vat. if a yank imports and keeps the car for 2 years there is no vat but if he sells within the 2 years there is vat to pay.

this may be a complete load of bllox but it sounds very feasable
