Are White Clouds Of Steam From The Brakes Normal?!

Just wondered if you guys experience huge clouds of steam coming from the front brakes after coming to a halt when it's been raining?

A couple of times today I've noticed it, Mike saw it once earlier, and then when I was nearly home I'd stopped from 120kph->0 and then driven half a mile through town and then when I came to a stop at a set of traffic lights huge clouds of steam came from the front brakes - guessing it's just the water evaporating but am I doing something wrong or is this just normal behaviour?

I didn't sit on the brakes when I'd come to a stop - never do, came straight off them and applied the handbrake as the clouds appeared - just seemed out of the ordinary judging by the looks on other drivers faces

There must've been a lot of water for them to steam like that mate.

But it was raining pretty hard last night.

I set the brakes on fire on the cupra once. That was scary. Was bedding them in and went ott !!

Stopped at a roundabout clouded in smoke and the flames were licking up both sides of the car at the front

I looked like a bit of a wolly on my hands and knees trying to blow the fire out - i was a shade scared i tell you !

Luckily the chap behind me came darting over with a fire extinguisher

Don't know what I'd have done otherwise

I'm sure your's are fine aido - they didn't smell at all did they?

Thanks guys, sounds like i'm ok then, Colin, the steam came on for about a second when I pressed the brakes and then stopped the instant I let off - I'm not very mechanically minded but does that sound like they're working properly?

@ Mark, they smelt a little but just the smell I always get when i've driven hard of brakes :)

There were no flames touch wood!

Quality Am, how cool does it look

People think it's something out of TF&TF, think the kiddies thought it was a nitrous purge system, they were still putting out a ***** load of heat when I stopped half a mile after the steam

Would have loved to have seen them, wonder if they were glowing orange

...and then when I was nearly home I'd stopped from 120->0

For any coppers reading this, Aido's talking about kilometres per hour here! :winky:

(and for any REALLY awkward ones, his speedo over-reads by 6%)

That's bang on pal, changed my post just to reiterate that as well :winky:

Because of course, 120kph is nearly 70 mph :D
