..... cos I have been seduced by another car and I just don't have enough space.

Most of you will think im completely barmy. Im hankering after a 1984 Rover SD1 Vanden plas EFI.

If you have to ask why, you will never understand. I have strange car taste. I think the Citroen XM is a stunning piece of art to look at.

The Rover is being sold by a friend who is the second owner. Its got full SH and has never been welded since it was assembled and everything works on it.

If i can clear my garage out of three quaters of a Stag and leave the MX5 outside then the lex may well get a stay of execution but we will have to see.

Yes, im bonkers but what the hell. :crybaby:

Can't sell the MX. It puts a huge smile on ya face and loves to be thrashed.

Agree with the DS but I forgot to mention the pornography which is the SM. Phoaaar.

Mate, I think the SD1s are awesome. I don't remember seeing one for years. Makes it more exclusive than your Lex ;-)

Just watch out for leak in the glovebox!

tose cars are very rare!! and they look hardcore in a GaNgStA kinda way! :D

Good luck on whatever you decide to do.

I've owned 2 SD1 Vitesse's, and they are a lot more fun than the GS300. My last Vitesse was a hoot after I had thrown a heap of money at it. i.e. 3.9 engine from Real Steel, Holley carb Edelbrock inlet manifold ( A vast improvement on the primitive & sometimes troublesome OEM EFi system), Stainless tubular headers & exhaust, adjustable Koni suspension (40 mm drop), Jag brakes, polished & ported heads & even nitros at one time! It left quite a few BMW M3's for dead! ha ha :winky:

SD1's are rarer than rocking horse sh*t these days especially Efi's & Vitesse's.

ENJOY!

Hmmm nice car!

Hard to say that cos its British.

I too have a Rover roller skate. Mine is a high comprssion 827 V6 Vitesse. Frighteningly fast for a British saloon car. Tony Pond is well known for his road racing exploits in an 827 Vitesse being the first person to lap the Isle of Man TT circuit at over 100mph back in 1988 in the standard road car.

Its not quite a SD1 Vitesse but it is quick and a little more refined and reliable with a super virtually unbreakable Honda V6.

We digress!!

keep the lex. the sd is a nice car with v8 but if need space sell the mx5. :)

as for the xm,no way. it has to be th ds. :D

Well, as I joined up here after 25 years in the Citroen Car Club.....Had 5 DSs, but you need to be pretty keen these days. Inevitable rot, and corrosion. But still my all time favourite.

Borrowed one to do a friends wedding (her dream car ) last year and you realise just how much cars have moved on since the 70s.

The XM? Underrated. Later ones got rid of the initial electrical hiccups. Real cruiser!

The SDi was related to the wonderful CX citroen, another car I enjoyed, espec. my near unique Turbo-Auto (they only produced Turbo 5 speeds...) THAT car was £12K renovated and now lives in Australia.

A hot rod SDI would be great, though STILL not a match for an LS400. Not having to worry about things is the extra ingredient?. But with an MX-5 too, why not? (Keep the Lex, tho'!)

Im going for a good nosey early next week. Either way im keeping the Lex and the MX5.

This could be my seventh SD1. I love em and that includes the ducks in both the gloveboxes, the dodgy straight sixes and the Lucas EFI system.

This car has never been welded since it was built and has only had two owners.

You can tell its from the British leyland school though cos the panel fit is appalling.

Your as bad as me I also love the old SD1's and also have a great appreciation of the big XM's, have owned 2 SD1's and would still have them if I could afford to run them, thirsty buggers.

The XM's are also very underated motors. Am trying to get a decent GS300 at the minute but will be enquiring into a LPG conversion for it.

Good luck with your choice anyway.

Very rarely see a decent SD1 or XM on the road now. pity..

Do all ex-XM owners buy GS's??

I also owned a fantastic 2.5TD Exclusive XM. It was quite wonderful and I am amazed still at how well it handled for such a huge car. It was great fun leaving beemers and golfs for dust on the motorways and still averaging at least 40mpg. Sadly a seized water pump and numerous other things that had just worn out spelt the end for my Thunderbird 2 lookalike.

As for Rovers, I have owned a mk1 3ltr Manual P5, a couple of P6 2000s and a hondover 213, but sadly never an SD1.
