You can't really stop them all as the really skilled guys are always one step ahead of the software that blocks them. At the last place I was at we used MessageLabs for all email filtering, that was good stuff. At home I ditched the personal account I was using which was being checked against and just use GMail, they've got some pretty good filters in place, but seeing as I've never publicised that address and it's getting loads of stuff automatically chucked into the spam folder it sometimes makes you wonder whether it's Google sending made up spam to make you think it's working really well!

You can get apps like MailWasher that clean your incoming mail onto your PC, most of the antivirus guys do one nowadays, to be honest I've not touched any of them as running on the Mac all the time for the last few years so always used stuff at the server end.

Maybe some of the guys on here can recommend some?

I don't think there is much that can be done until a standard secure email service is commonplace - there are some around but nobody (i.e. microsoft or any other big organisations) seem to be pushing a standard forward. You'd think with all the technology and wizzyness about we would be able to solve this one problem.

Not ideal but only thing I can advise to keep on top of things is to register your own domain (not too expensive nowadays) so you can send/receive email on any address, i.e. me@mydomain.co.uk, somethingelse@mydomain.co.uk, lexus@mydomain.com etc. Then you can use different emails for different sites and set filters to reject/ignore certain ones when you start getting spam on them (which you will eventually). When I start getting spam on an email address I just reject any email going to it and start using another one.

spam wont be stopped totally.. it creates a massive market for anti spam software companies and consultants. Just as you get rid of some more different ones appear..

I get about 2000 a week.. but at work we get over 5000 a day. But we use a seperate spam server for that and that is pretty good but still not 100% effective.

The stock quotes one are very clever.. they get past the google filters as all my personal mail goes through google.

even if you create a filter for a certain peice of the message code they always change.

only way these days is to have a verification process.. that works well if you get your white list sorted.

I'm getting up to 100 a day now, it was about 50 per day. Wonderfull investment opportunities, viagra and ***** enlargements.

So far none of the investments offered have been fruitfull, but I live in hope. The viagra tablets I received have a slight effect if used as suppositries and the ***** enlargement ointment has shrunk an already unersize member to that of an underfed gnat. Otherwise they were wirth every penny.:lol::lol:
