I have a IS200 1999 35k on the clock.

When I change from 2nd to 1st from around 10 mph to 2 mph you sometimes it will not go in but as you put presure on the stick to get it into 1st you get a gear clunk it could be the synchromesh ?

Has anyone else had this problem and has it been fixed

The car is under a 3 month RAC warranty

I think I should give it to the RAC ? but would you trust them !!

My old driving instructor would have your guts for garters if he heard you changed from 2nd to 1st while the car was still moving!!

"NEVER EVER!! PUT THE CAR INTO FIRST, UNLESS THE REAR WHEELS ARE STATIONARY" :megaangry:

He'd say. :withstupid:

Erm, I don't think trying to stop in first is advisable generally - I know i was taught to only ever pull away in first, stopping in second.

Aside from anything else, on the IS's due to the way the six speed is set up, gear 2 - 6 are a lot closer in ratio than 2 to 1, mean that you have to allow a tad longer to shift in to first from second, than you would from third to second for example.

To be honest though, you probably putting a bit of unnecessary wear on your gear box by trying to slow in first...

I once drove a white diesel mondeo estate that was a pool car at work, probably one of the worst things I have driven in my life, absolutely no low down power at all, and it wouldn't even let you change into 1st if you were moving even slightly, design feature apparently!
