hello all iam currently making my ls400 look its best again by repairing one or two supermarket trolley bumps and various stone chips at the front , at the same time i would like to change the rather boring mundane standard alloys with something a little smarter and possibly also go from 16 to 17 inch , its my intention to buy second hand to keep the cost down and wondered if any of you guys can tell me if the wheels from a gs 300 or an is 200 will fit my ls 400 mk 3 or even better still does anyone have some that are for sale :D many thanks.

Goodness I feel like I'm hogging all the topics!

You can fitt wheels from a sorer, cos I did no probs. also the std IS wheels that you see loads of on e-bay will fit, the offset means they will be a little further into the wheel arch but when I asked this question some months ago someone was running them on an LS already.

Just work out your rolling dia from the tyres they come with to see if your speedo will be effected.

Std LS400 alloy 16"

width 225

profile 60

whee dia 16 135

= 541.4 Rolling diameter

Std IS200 alloy 17"

width 215

profile 45

whee dia 17 96.75

= 528.55 Rolling diameter

Hence speedo will say you are going faster than you actually are.

Hi all, I am having problems trying to find an after market 17" alloy to fit my 1996 Ls 400. I just bough a set of "DOTZ" ZINC complete with Dunlop SP 270'S from Halfords and after the compulasry weeks wait I picked them up last night. Raring to fit them I took of the front drivers side wheel and gently put on the new DOTZ, it lined up perfectly until it came into contact with the large brake caliper..DAMM and BLAST. I even went out and bought 5mm spacers.. against my better judgement.. to see if this would help but its needs about 7mm to clear the caliper and the nuts wouldnt go on anyway with that amount of spacer

The size of the alloys are 17 x 7 and the offset is 40, which by all accounts should fit..believe me they dont..not on the front anyway. Could someone please tell me the proper offset for my car...its a 1996 (oct). :crying::crying::crying:

The Mk4 Supra is 5x114.3 PCD, 60.1 centre bore, offset 50, so it's identical to the Lexus cars, as well as the Soarer (although I think some Lexus wheels may be ET45). Find a specialist dealer who knows about the Supra, if you can't find one who knows about Lexus.

This is the thread on the Supra forum

Be careful with Supra fittments as the j-spec cars have smaller calipers than the UK cars, more after market wheels will fit j-spec cars than they will UK ones. The UK calipers, which are similar size to LS calipers dictate that only a limited amount of after market wheels clear them.

If you ask for a Supra fittment they could send you wheels that will only clear j-spec calipers, not UK ones.

Also Supra wheels are wider on the rear than front. Standard UK Supra tyres are 235 front and 245 rear.

Just check beforehand if you go down this route when ordering.

I've got a MkIV with standard alloys. The front calipers are less than 5mm away from the alloy and as I don't like the clip-on balancing weights 'cos they scratch the paint, I always have problems getting the wheels balanced when tyres need replacing. Usually it means a few extra weights around the rim but out of the way of the calipers. I also have to watch out that the back wheels are similarly balanced as they'll hit the calipers if I do a tyre rotation.

Yes, I can confirm the last post too. The Ser 4 wheels snag the brakes if stick-on balance weights aren't in the right place (as I found out after having wheels re-finished....squeak-squeak as I drove off....and straght back!!)

So looks like the depth of the interior of wheel relating to calipers (something not always obvious!) needs looking at!
