Car Feels A Bit Skittish Under Braking

Hi there, i'm just a new member but would appreciate some advice.

I have a 51 plate IS300 with 40k on the clock and when braking the back end feels very loose and feels like its about to break loose. Also on bumpy roads the car feels very uneven and tends to wander a bit. I can hear what sounds like a brake rubbing slightly which is due to be sorted under warranty but I was wondering if something more serious is up?

I've read previous threads and heard good things about the doctor sorting out geometry problems. Could this be what is wrong with my car? Also whereabouts is the doctor based, i live in southwest Scotland but I do have family down near Aylesbury.

Any advice would be appreciated, Thanks.

Hi and welcome to the club. Take a look at the link below, as this is where the DOCTOR resides!

http://www.wheels-inmotion.co.uk/

From what I have read and what I have learnt recently re. Lexus geometry, I don't think that a trip to the doctor would hurt. I think every Lexus would benefit from trip to the doctors, but the free check up after 2000 miles may be a bit of problem for you considering your location.

Tony had a member come from Edinburgh the other week (i think)..first i would check the pressures forget what the dealer tells you its 35 PSI all round this may improve the rear end being a bit skittish, if that doesn't improve then its worth a trip Sth to see the Dr he can then give you settings you could take with you up to Scotland, there must be somewhere up there that can do geo, (dealers perhaps) and get them to adjust to the new settings from 2000 miles thereafter. :D

Welcome to LOC... Your problem reads very worrying. "Lift off over-steer" commands attention. Would you like wim to assist you with this problem directly?

Thanks for all your replies. Yes I would appreciate some specialist help, most of the garages around myself dont seem slightly interested with my problem, they think that just putting the car back to original settings should be okay and should slove the problem, however I disagree. I'm in the process of getting back tyres, any advice on the best type - I was thinking about Toyo Proxes. Has anyone got any opinions on what type of tyres are best for a Lexus?

Thanks again.

Hi,

Take a look at the link below.

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/surveyresult....jsp?type=UHPAS

I too have been looking for some new boots and came across the above link, I know that it's US biased, but the information must fundamentally be the same. The actual website is very good and provides lots of information, I think I wasted about an hour and a half looking the other night!

I really like the look of the TOYO T1-R's, but I would like a tyre that is better in the wet than in the dry, as our summers seem to be wetter than average! I also believe that the IS200 or IS300 (as in your case) does not like snow/ice or very wet roads and being real wheel drive could make life very interesting in wetter conditions.

I also found this site that seems to be OK, from a price point of view: -

http://www.etyres.co.uk/car-tyres-uk/detail?productId=5162

They have a good range of the TOYO product, if thats what you really fancy. I'd be interested to see how you get on with your tyre choice.

Matt

Have you had the cars Geometry measured already? If yes can you display the after front positions.

I find that mytyres.co.uk tend to be cheapest for tyre, but I can get them fitted for only £10 each. My mate had Toyo's on his BMW 323 coupe (shed!!) on 18" rims and they never really wore down at all so I just want to see what they drive like on the Lexus.

In reply to WIM I've only had the car 3 months but the garage aren't really bothered with sorting it under warranty, they just keep feeding me bulls**t. I've read nothing but good things about yourself on the forum so I think some professional help could be in order!

We are all ears if needed. Helping with the "techy" stuff is not a problem it you want us to talk to the centre in question.
