Have tint on current car without attracting any attention from the law and am intersted to know of any negative experience/ over zelous inforcement of the "no tint on front door windows law" Not sure what penaty would be but when I had my last car tinted the guys that did it said they know of people being pulled over and handed a scraper and the option of remove now or get ticket. Will be colllecting new car in next couple weeks and want to tint windows, needless to say wouldnt want the scraper/ticket proposition. I do feel alittle naked when I drive cars without some degree of tint up front and am curious to know if I have just been fortunate not to have a problem :tomato: or is it a seldom inforced law.

They will issue you with a notice to get it put back to STD within 7 days and this must be verified by a MOT tester.

Mine has been tinted for 5 yrs and have never been stopped nor has it failed an MOT, i think its aimed at the chav brigade.

My 250 SE-L has tints, although the front tints are 'Light Smoke' over the original tints. No comments or problems from our friends in the police force, unless you count the suggestion from our own Mr Plod, (Surgical Virus a.k.a Scarface), that I should tint the fronts to match the limo tint rear :o

If they handed me a scraper I'd be asking them which

part of the road they want me to pick them up from...

(and to hold tight as this may hurt a bit)

A recification or delayed prohbition notice giving you

7 days is more likely, unless you have limo tints on the

front, which is asking for trouble, especially when you

try changing lanes, pulling out of a side turning etc @ nite.

Thanks for the lnput guys. Is the same true of smoked tail lights. There are a couple examples on the Club lexus site I like the look of aerotechts smoked taillights or possibly redouts. Is that and tints too much

I have all the windows tinted in my is250 sport and touch wood havent been stopped so far, my tinting bloke said if plod can see you in the car (through the glass) they will seldom stop you, its these silly billys who think they are the mafia and have their windows pitch who get pulled, I also questioned this before i had mine done, dont want to spend all that dosh only to have to take it off, go as dark as you can but make sure that you can just be seen through. Failing that every time you clock plod open both the front windows and keep them open until they have buggered off. :winky:

Remember - the law s about safety - and whether your vision is impaired, more than plod wanting to see what you're up to...

Ther is some sort of "%" rule - dunno what it is but 35% tint comes to mind?? Anyone know for sure?

Almost every new IS abroad in the suunier climes has a darkish tint, especially in white with black tints they look awesome!!

I've got red-outs and tints on my 250, can't see the point of smoked tail lights, although Aerotect do a film set for smoked headlights....

I cant believe nobody saw the news item on BBC"Midlands Today" yesterday on this very subject. Staffs police are targetting cars with heavily tinted front windows, and guess what car they pulled in during the filming? :whistling:

Yes an IS250 with a BT56 reg number.

Any one like to own up? :

Did they pick it out because of obvious tints? Mine has light smoke tints on the front sides and dark smoke on the rear sides and back screen so there appears to be a marked difference between front and rear. Time will tell I guess but I'm sure our traffic police use a bit of common sense when enforcing this law.

Haven't got a really decent pic, but here's one Ahmet took when it was undergoing the Arago geometry check at TDI.. you can see the front doesn't look tinted in comparison to the rear.
