Hi!

I have read some comment's about some IS200 whith LSD kicking out their back in some strange situations:

http://www.carsurvey.org/viewcomments_review_9064.html

http://www.carsurvey.org/viewmorecomments_review_9064_1.html

As far as I know, only the IS 200 Sport has the LSD. Does the Limited Slip Diferential makes the car less safe to drive than the standard IS200?

Anyone with a Sport version had a "weird kick out" of the back with aparent no reason?

Never had an issue with mine, even when taking bends faster.

I have an is200 sport and have never had any problems with the tale kicking out...

the reviews i have read....it looks to me like the bloke was driving like an absolute w****r to get the tail out.

one review said he was doing 60 mph on snow when the tail suddenly "kicked" out...dduurrhhh..its going to if you are driving on the snow doing 60mph in a rear wheel drive car...

That's clearly been written by someone who can't drive a slippery stick up his own a55...

To answer your question though, when you get to the point of loosing traction in a bend an LSD car is more likely to slide as both wheels are spinning. However, you'll need to be doing more to get it to happen. More can be anything - speed, acceleration, road with less grip etc.

LSD on a rearwheeldrive car can be tricky but only with too much power, lowered and with the wrong geometry. An Is normally is on the save/controllable side ( I have it on my 280 bhp Donkervoort and on such a light car it can be fatal in the wrong hands).

By the way: try a Focus RS and you know what will happen with LSD on a fWD car (once it starts working you simply can't steer for a few moments which is very scary if you're not prepared....)

Under normal driving it should make no difference.

What I found on the LSD cars I've had is that say in the wet waiting to pull out of a busy junction or pull onto a roundabout, if you give too much power with a standard diff, the inside wheel lifts, spins and you go nowhere. If you do it with an LSD, both wheels spin and you will fish tail down the road or spin. Luckily I was quick enough to stop it happening when it did. It really doesn't come down to driving like a knobhead or anything. Pulling out of busy slippery junctions always has the potential of wheel spinning. The end result is totally different depending if an LSD is fitted or not. Neither result is particularly good if it goes wrong.

In snow, an LSD can make the difference between getting going and not, without it a single wheel will spin and you can be stuck where as with the LSD and both wheels still turning, you may get out of it.

It is swings and roundabouts really, if you over cook it it can help, and other times not, depending on the situation. In dry conditions, the LSD can be more fun. JMO.

never had much problem with mine either, if the roads been a bit wet like it has been, and where i work the road is a bit ****ty and oily i end up going up the road sideways (not like stupid ammounts) but its more fun then dangerous, the roads always empty and and pretty wide, never had a problem where it kicks out unless i want it too....

Hi!

I have read that LSD's need to change the oil much more often than standard diferential. Do you know what is the interval to change the LSD oil in Lexus IS200/IS300?

It should say in your service manual that you got with the car.. it will have an .i. for inspect or an .r. for replace.under cars with a slip diff..normally an .r. for oil.... think its every 20,000 main service the diff oil gets changed.. but could be wrong im sure someone will tell you on LOC. if in doubt ring up a lexus dealership
