Stereo Headunit Install

Recommended Posts

I need to get my headunit installed. It is an empeg and has a standard ISO connector and 4 volt line-outs. Now I know that the IS200 doesn't have an ISO connector and that the connections will have to be fudged, but can the headunit be connected to the existing amps/speakers?

I've done lots of searching and reading the archives and there seems to be some confusion as to whether it will work or not.

The unit has high-level line outputs and requires an amplifier that can handle 3.2V RMS line outputs. It provides four channels (two left/right pairs, one front and one rear. It does not provide a separate subwoofer out.

I'm not looking for some kickin ICE install with wikkid neon. I just want to get my headunit installed.

Will it work with the current amp or will I have to get a new amp and have the car totally rewired?

imo you better rewire the whole car and get it connected to a new amp

that way, you would be able to unwire all and get the standard unit back when you'll sell the car without fudging the wiring again ;)

you can but need to get the wiring diagram of the amp :duh:

moreover, splice is not so good if you want a great sound and the standard wires are quite thin for a good sound system

In my previous car, I rewired all with 2.5mm² OFC cables but let the orignal wirings in

I really think it is easier to rewire than trying use the standard system and it will surely bring you better sound quality

I ordered an Adapter loom from the US for my IS

but when it came the connector was the wrong type for my IS as mine is the old style connector, it should fit with the new IS and it comes with a line level converter, Ive heard mixed comments on if it will work or not if your interested you can PM me and I'll send you all the infomation i have

If you look on the US forums these line level converters are getting a slating.

It is an easier job to re-wire the whole car than start splicing into the amp, if you do want to to that then look in the AV Forum all the wiring diagrams are in there as are instructions
