Hi ppl,

Got a service comming up soon and im starting to buy bits and bobs for my is200 (01) as i like to choose/know whats best for my car. Can anybody suggest a decent transmission oil and how much i would need? I've noticed recently that my gears are getting more and more rough (not sure when the tranmission was last changed or when it's suppose to, or maybe its winter), so this time i want to make sure it gets changed to something decent so it may cure the gear problem.

Cheers

Cheers for the replies. Ok, so 75w90 is the spec of oil im looking for. I see on eBay they mostly only sell it in 1 litre, so im assuming that the 1 litre is enough for the is200 gear box? Also once again i see the semi-synthetic and fully synthetic labels which one should i go for as i have a manuel gear box and has done 80k miles?

Need my oil changing spoke 2 the dealer regards what 2 buy and how much, they stated 75w 90 and capacity is 2.2l. so would need 2 bottles if not 3 to top up after a while.

The manual transmission on the IS200 has different capacities according to the official data sheets depending on model year, no idea why though :duh:

e.g. 1999 is 1.8l, 2000/1 is 1.95l, 2002/3/4 is 2.0l. None of them are 2.2l as far as I can see.

It can be a bit awkward to get the bottle positioned where you want it to because there's not a lot of space in between the fill plug and the walls of the transmission tunnel. When you get a bottle of transmission oil it has an integral fill tube, i have a small length of tube that i fit over the end just to extend the reach. It makes it a bit easier.
