My unit was showing ERR 1 when i changed it, may just be that the laser needs cleaning like jomo says, but i found it only coming up with ERR 1 when playing copied / burned disc's, the unit played originals fine, is this also the case with yours???

That could be a problem with the discs? Did you try another brand of CD-R? Was it suddenly showing ERR1 with the same discs or new ones?

You could be onto something there Parthiban, i copied disc's for my 2 boys & some for the car all from the same batch of blanks, the boys played ok in their stereo, so it may have been the brand / type of disc that the lex unit didn't like, but it didn't come up with ERR1 all the time, just every now and again, anyway, no chance now of putting the old one back in just to try it. best thing i ever did was change it :)
