Scorpion 5000 Alarm

I have a 1995 car with a Scorpion 5000 alarm, as fitted from about Jan 1995 to about Sept 1995 and approved by Thatcham as cat-1.

This is a usefull site actually.

the T5000 has a square keyring fob, with a raised red button and a dented black button and a slider on the side.

There have been a few posts about this syetem recently and I am happy to help with queries.

FAQ:

1/ The slider needs to be in 1 position or the other, else the alarm will not be turned off when the ignition is engaged.

2/ If the car has been tampered with, the number of flases on the dash indicates how the system was activated.

3/ As another owner found out recently, there are batteries inside the siren, so it is advisable to check that they are good, else your alarm will be silent when it is most needed.

4/ I am guessing that the 3 pins on the side are for reprogramming. Scorpion told me that the reprogramming machine dies a few years ago and has been scrapped, so they can not reprogram fobs..... but they can sell you a replacement system.

5/ I was told that the alarms were fitted by Lexus, sometimes at dealer level, they cut into the loom, the control box only has lots of black wires and is located under the lower glove box.

6/ I will add other details as I come accross them, it could be usefull to search the forums for the other cars that have the sama alarm system... landcruiser, Rav, Supra etc.

I have the instructions too, I'm not sure that I can publish them, but fire away.

I spent all morning attempting to sort mine, but the circuit board within the siren unit is somewhat tired so mine is work in process but £259 doesnt sound (no pun intended) too bad.

I'd rather not have an aftermarket alarm as they are notoriously unreliable - plus they really aren't a deterrent.

I had an expensive one on my bike which stranded me one day without warning - it was 4 years old. I had a mobile fitter test it (they only usually last 3 years sir, so you've done well), then remove it as a replacement was £300. My Saab had a Scorpion one which kindly disabled my fuel pump, leaving me stranded and had to be relayed home (removed soon after), and my Golf's one expired completely, but fortunately didn't disable car. My Seat Leon Cupra (new at the time) gave me no end of alarm trouble, leading to complaints from my neighbours.

Just my opinion, but one which the majority of bikers agree with.

Me too but unless i wanted a mk1 or a mk4 (too old and too expensive respectively) I had to get a lexus with an aftermarket alarm, as almost if not all of them had one fitted by Lexus new :(

Sorry about haywire. The situation is that the car Battery went flat, after recharging the Battery the red security light came on and I can no longer start the car with the key, lock or unlock the car using the remote, the remote is a 2 button type with a lock unlock button and a red panic button.

Hi, Mine packed up on my 1995 mark 3...Could not start the car, had it towed away by the AA...and Lexus remove and make safe, cost £100..Will be having new one fitted soon....No more messing around...phew.

The solution is in deed on hand. Please follow these steps EXACTLY

With the bonnet up and a spanner for the earth to hand

Put the key in the ignition and turn it to Acc (accesories)

Disconnect the earth from the Battery

Turn key fron Acc to On

Reconnect the earth to the Battery

Turn key to off and remove

Close door and bonnet

Press black button to lock

Wait for the system to arm

Press black button

Check security light is out

Done.

Rinse and repeat if necessary. Please let us know how you got on.

I hope you will continue to use the forum. For the future please try the search facility first, the above solution has been posted before; at least a couple of times by me. Another tip is to write down the instructions and hide them in the car. That way you have them if the problem re-occurs. My first time was after the garage had had my car!

If all else fails do you know how to remove the alarm completley? Or is it just a case of tracing where the alarm is cut in to the loom?

All the siren unit does is to make the noise; it wont help with the other problems and the Battery packs are £16 so you will be better to solve the problem before changing the batteries. In addition, the printed circuit is very fragile. I had to replace the entire siren unit as a result.

I am surprised that the procedure has failed. I did suggest repeating and trust you have done so. Also, is the remote Battery ok? The system can only arm and disarm with a charged car Battery and a good remote Battery. The siren batteries are irrelevant to that process.

The Scorpion T5 was mainly UK dealer fitted and should be located behind the main glove box - which has to be removed to gain access. I have looked at mine in the past and from memory there didnt appear to be any plugs or obvious colour coding but its probably 4 or more years since I looked. To remove it would be best undertaken with the Battery disconnected. Replacement systems can be quite expensive so it might be worth while to investigate the problem a little further first. Oh, and dont forget, with the system removed it can be easily hotwired and may affect your insurance to the point where it is declared void.

Another thought regarding the remote is that it may now be out of sync with the car. To resolve this you need to be outside the vehicle with the doors shut. Aiming the remote fron the usual distance toward the usual point you have got used to aiming at, press and hold the black button for at least 10 seconds. Release and use normally. You may have to do this once youve resolved the original problem.

yes, thats the process that derek describes, holding the button for 10 seconds.

After exhaustive attempts at trying to re-program the alarm, I decided to rip it all out. Quite a job most of the dash has to be removed and the joined wires traced. Worked though, now have a working car without that crappy alarm.
