Mk3 Weird Electrics Phenomenon

Recommended Posts

hi will just to clarify the problem we are talking about here :

That the car dash lights/screen go off while the engine keeps running - the power steering may be lost aswell but i cannot confirm that becuase i did not notice - this has happened about 6 times to me in a year and mainly on a long run. To get the lights back i have just wiggled the key in the ignition and the lights have returned. Today i replaced my ignition switch in the hope of rectifying the problem.

I have a feeling your talking about cutting out where the engine stalls as you slow down after a long run - this problem only effects the Mark 3 and is resolved by cleaning out the throttle body

hope this helps clear things up

Hi, just picked up on this again. I started the original thread btw ages ago now.

Well, I didn't deal with the ignition switch. My mechanic guy said that this is NOT uncommon on a number of other marques. A pain to sort out and if i really need it sorted then he will deal with it but in the meantime I won't have any other problems except needing the odd key wiggle ........... sometimes.

It's happened a couple of times since to me too ............ and after just a few minutes into driving.

Simple solution that appears effective and " free " is just to wiggle, or even just to lightly touch the ignition key and hey presto, all is back to being fine and dandy.

Just hope it stays that way too.
