Water Ingress

Recommended Posts

I have a RX400h 2005, which due to the seal/grommet enclosing cabling to the Battery section under the rear seat failing, has allowed water ingress and damage to the associated relays which I am informed today will cost me just under £1000 to repair. Has anyone else suffered with this problem? Am I being unreasonable to expect an item that effectively ensures the protection of £1000's of batteries and relays, which has not been touched or tampered with since manufacture to last considerably more than 6 years?

Hello and welcome to the LOC.

I've not seen any other posts regarding your problem, what has actually happened to this seal has it become displaced, perished?

I am assuming the cables pass from the inside of the vehicle at the rear seat area to the outside and water from under the vehicle has then been spraying in during driving in wet weather?

The only common problem I know of with hybrids is the inverter pack failure.

Perhaps other owners could have a look under their rear seats to see if this is a common problem or just a one off defect either way it would be a good idea to check just in case before a lot of money is involved to sort.

Mine RX400 is only just three years old and I have had it from new. However no evidence of this problem and nor have I heard of it. I suspect bad luck so you will have to pay although it might be worth trying to twist Lexus' arm.
