Should be no problem using GTX. Lexus dealers used to use semi-synthetic oil on service.

  • 1 month later...

hi,

I want to service my lex. its a x reg (2000) and done 115k. what would be the best oil to use? i'm thinking of Castrol magnetic but would i need 5w30 or 10w40?

am not sure considering its done high millage. also would i need to change the following:

Brake Fluid

Coolant

Power stearing

gearbox oil

diff oil

these 5 things have not been changed for about 16 months now just want to know are they necessary? if so could you please recommend which would be the best to go for.

thanks for any replies in advance.

no need to change any of these except from the engine oil. Just check the levels of all fluids and top them up if necessary. I use Mobil 1 10W 40 which is semi synthetic and as far as i know it's not recommended to use fully synthetics on high mileage engines

I've always used Havoline fully sythetic 5w-30 in my engine but when supplies disappeared from Morrisons I got Castrol Magnatec 5w-30.

After a discussion with Castrol I was told my engine even though it is a 1994 model was OK with this oil as it is the energy saving type (A1 or A3 or something) not suitable for all cars. My present mileage is around 70,000 and I have used the same type of oil since I bought the car at 38,000 miles.

The Castrol guy did say as the engine wears I may need to move to 10w-40 but hopefully not for a good while yet.

What is the correct grade oil for the this engine?

I'm presuming either 10w40 semi or 5w30 depending?

This

If so, are Lexus owners aware of the existence of Vauxhalls trade club? They offer good savings on most(but not all) service items for Vauxhall owners, but specifically very good oils at cheap prices.

Eg. 20litres of Dexos2 fully synth for £50 odd quid

4x5 litre bottles of semi synth for £35 odd both plus vat

As an omega owner forum member its been proven Castrol doesn't handle moisture and condensation from short journeys well, causing blocked crank case breathers. The GM oils don't, and are substantially cheaper ESP via trade club.

Does anything similar exist for Lexus owners?

Anyway, might be helpfully to some here...?

(on re reading this might look a bit spammy, genuine post)
