Its Like There Is No Battery At All

Recommended Posts

Just went out to go to the doctors and she is dead, absolutely nothing, not even a glimmer of anything getting even a micro volt to it, so we are waiting for the good old RAC.

Car last used on Friday just gone and she is parked outside.

Further updates to follow.

Mone done exactly the same Mike. Jumped it took it for a run and not done it since, im sure i didnt leave anything on but who knows. Ben

Hi Ben.

Well Mr RAC came very quickly and jump started it everything instantly came back to life, Battery test done showed there was nothing wrong with the Battery, showed it charging at 14 volts, have just been out for an hours drive stopped and started a few times no problems.

This happened to me about a year ago exactly the same, the car showed absolutely no signs of life what so ever. Mr RAC came out checked the Battery with the same results the Battery was then only a few months old then, Lexus Battery.

So it remains a mystery. Mike

Sounds exactly the same as mine then, very strange. Mines been fine ever since but i keep the jump pack in the boot now just to be on the safe side. Ben

Those jump packs are brilliant and I am about to order one. Do you make sure on a regular basis that there is a good charge in the jump pack if you keep it in the car?

Mines a small snap on one. Nice size a not that heavy it holds its charge for a very long time and has a handy test button on the front so can check it every now and then. Not the cheapest but i guess as most things you get what you pay for. Ben

I've had the same problem today but when I tried to trickle charge the Battery it set the alarms off. I have concluded my problem is the car is not recognising the smart key which will not open the doors or turn in the ignition even though it did last week after being left for a month unused. I have tried resetting by pressing the door button at the same time as the key button but to no avail. Any ideas apart from calling the AA? Cheers. P.S., I'm not keen on Lexus' idea of trailering there for a ride on their diagnostic machine @ £50 + VAT.

Do you have the model number of the snap on booster by any chance please Kent.

Cheers

Talking of portable Battery chargers, I've been carrying one around for a few months and I have just realised I have been wasting my time. The charger connects through the internal 12 volt power plug\cig lighter, and the ingnition has to be in the 'acc' position for it to work.

I have a 'start button' my car and the 'acc' position is activated by pressing it with my foot off the brake. So, if the 12 volt Battery is flat - no acc position. The 12 volt batt is not needed to start the engine, thats done by the traction Battery. So, is there a portable charger the connects directly to the 12 volt Battery?

I belive it is a common occurance for hybrids to flatten the 12 volt batt if not run regularly.

I can explain the mystery. About 8.30 this morning a UFO flew over Hampshire and Sussex taking it's energy from Japanese cars, this avoids the spacecraft crashing and causing untold damage to crops. Anything else I can help you with?

Do you know what I think you could have something there as I am sure I saw an Alien hanging around the Benefits Office in Reading as I drove by in my now fixed Lexus. No one seem to give it a second look but I know what I saw. Mike

I use one from machine mart excellent bit of kit. It has a gauge on the front to show its charge plus it can be charged in the boot of the car from the porer socket so always ready to use.

I'll try again. My emergency power pack does not clip directly onto the car's Battery terminals. It charges a flat car Battery through the cigarette lighter socket, however the ingnition switch has to be in the 'accesories' position. With a starter button there has to be power in the car Battery to get to the acc position.

The emergency starter is not meant to replace a normal charger, rather its for use when away from home, such as returnung to an airport car park after a long trip to find a flat Battery.
