Hi!

I'm Will (Slimm) from Portsmouth and just bought my self a 2000 IS200 sport! (I don't have any pics yet but it is an orangey-red ha)

I must admit, i have been stalking this forum for a fair while lol debating on whether to get one or not but after alot of thought, decided to go for it!

I killed my old Audi a3 1.8t which was going pretty well with a hybrid turbo kicking out 230 ponies! (but at the front wheels isn't exactly great lol) But the loom was in a very bad condition from the day i bought it and it killed the ecu and it completely killed my interest in it!.. Ha soo it was on to the next. (I've been braking the a3 and made my more than my money back so it's not so much of a tragedy)

So this time was after RWD and have been going back n forth with bmw's, Audi quattro's and th IS200 but the bmw is too common for me and I've been put off Audi's for life atm haha. So went and got it yesterday and all seems fine and am really happy with it! But at £900 it has come with it's problems lol I'm a mechanic so it's not all bad! There's just a few things I'm not clued up on..

The problems I'm sure someone can either tell me what the common solution (i hope) or direct me in the right way!

Headlights staying on after I lock the car..

I've been reading a fairly big thread about it all and yes, my interior light door switch on the drivers side is playing up and will need replacing so there's a start, plus i will look at the fuse box and connections etc..

The clutch is slipping and found oil coming from where the bell housing bolts to the engine. I'm thinking that there is a leak somewhere and the clutch is contaminated. Anyone know anything about this? I ordered an Exedy stage 1 clutch kit last night.

One of the belts squeak when i turn the steering wheel when stationary and the steering jolts. I will replace all of the belts when i service it. There is nothing else to worry about with this is there?

CD player doesn't work, only radio and it forgets it's memory. I am not too fussed about it and could just replace it with a double din unit at some point.

It has screens in the back of the head rests? There are two switches under the traction control button that lights one of them up and the other bypasses the cd player. Was this a standard option? Can't find any dvd player but just alot of wiring in the boot on the right. I'll probably just take it all out.

I also found a good enough excuse to replace the exhaust system hahaha!

My plans are for a stanced cruiser and once it's all up to scratch then D2 coilovers and stretched RS's are the way for me!

So if anyone could shed some lights on a few of the problems then please do! I'm hoping to hear IS200 common faults and fixes lol

Thanks! :)

Hi Will. Congrats on your purchase. You've written a lot. I may read it later. Lol. Looks like the previous owner did quite a few mods. My cd changer wasn't working when I picked up my SportCross, I just did a like for like change and its fine now.

Hi and welcome to LOC.

The only question I can answer is that is200 never came with tv's in headrests as standard.

Ah right well then they could be coming out seeing that only one lights up lol

Hello and welcome to the LOC.

Often down your way at Petersfield.

Never seen an exhaust held together with plastic cable ties, saw an LS400 one held together with interconnected jubilee clips once though!

Go for a custom cat back stainless steel replacement.

Oil in bell housing points to a leaking rear seal so easy to replace once the gearbox is off.

Ii still think it's odd that people are modifying is200's. I know they're the entry model and as such, are relatively cheap, but aren't modded cars meant to be vauxhall novas and renault 5's?

nova's and R5's haha do they even exist any more?

Really? Some people are mad lol

Yea that's the plan! Plus headers :)

That's alright then but is it a main dealer thing? or will motor factors do it?

Clearly not, but saw a kia picanto that someone had tried to mod recently. . . Their poor mother.

Plenty of miles left in that exhaust - it just needs another strap!

I have to admire you guys that can perform maintenance on these modern cars. When I was a lad, I was like that with A35s and Standard Vanguards. All I had to worry about then was remembering what came from where, and provided you had a basic understanding of the combustion engine, you couldn't go far wrong.

I was once called out to a guy who had dismantled his entire engine and couldn't get it back together. Nothing had been numbered and it was pot luck when it came to placing the end shells and pistons. We finally got it going though - but I didn't stay around to find out for how long!
