Hi all, I am a new member having recently purchased an IS 250 which is registered in July 2012 & has about 2,300 miles 'on the clock'.

Having only owned it for 3 weeks am still discovering all the many functions but am concerned about the excessive fuel consumption, wasn't expecting much about town but have been on a couple of reasonable runs (mainly motorway & A roads generally not exceeding 80mph) each of about 200 miles and have not achieved more than 29 mpg.

Is this normal or has anyone any suggestions?

Would apreciate your views, thanks.

Hello and welcome to the LOC.

Sorry for the late reply always miss some new member introductions.

IIRC these cars adapt to the driver's style and may therefore be still doing so.

No Lexus is particularly good on fuel and manufacturer's claimed figures can be optomistic.

Also take into account at that mileage the car is bearly run in so the engine will still be tight.

I would give it a little more time and mileage to settle and if things still don't improve have a word with your Lexus dealer.

Thanks for the welcome & response Steve,

What you say makes sense as I was aware that the Lexus is not particularly good as far as fuel consumption is concerned but 29mpg on a long run was a little worrying!

I would however be interested in hearing from other IS250 owners as to the mpg they have experienced so that I can judge in a couple of months time whether there is a problem that needs referring to the Lexus dealer.

Take a read through the threads in the 220/250 section. There are quite a few topics on mpg. Generally, I get 27-29 around town at the mo. Yesterday did a run to Hampshire and back and returned 38mpg.

Welcome to the club. Lots and lots of help on here and, as has already been mentioned above, there are lots of threads referring to mpg on the IS250.

For starters have a look at this one http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/index.php?showtopic=80667&hl=

Thank you all for your responses I have looked at some of the suggested threads and can see that I should be achieving better mpg on longish runs than at present, will see how it goes for the next month or so as I am planning a couple of trips to Lymington and Brighton and if no improvement speak to my Lexus dealer.....

Having said that I really enjoy driving the car and it compares favourably with my previous BMW 525d particularly with regard to the equipment provided.
