Hi all,

After much homework, especially from this forum, I took the plunge with a GS450h SE-L (08). I have owned and driven many makes and models, but this car is something special. I love the blend of refinement and power and can only assume that more people aren't buying them because they would rather have the usual German stuff or are afraid of the hybrid system.

Having done a lot of searching (including international forums) I think I would have to be very unlucky to have any issues with this car, especially the hybrid system. It was the story surrounding the fleet of Prius taxis in Australia that finally convinced me of their reliability. I have it warranted anyway so I'm just going to enjoy it come what may.

Anyway, good to be here and thanks for such a good forum.

Keith

Hi Keith and a warm welcome to LOC, good choice of wheels my identical model to yours is now on 160,000 miles with no faults or VOR time. Turned out to be the cheapest car I have ever used for work because of this and good fuel consumption figures.

Enjoy! Regards Tony

Cheers guys. Really good to hear Tony, I must say that my car still feels (and even smells) new; these things are incredibly well built and a real pleasure to drive.

Hi Keith,

Welcome

I have the same car as you which i bought last October SE-L on a 58 plate silver with biege interior - I really enjoy the car - especially the power !

The boot is a bit small but the drive is sublime !

Happy driving !

Doug

Thanks Doug. I have done a couple of hundred miles and I am completely smitten. I have no difficulties averaging 30mpg and I just love the power and how it's delivered. I have owned some fast cars in the past, but in terms of mid range/overtaking ability, the 450h is right up there. A motor of fantastic quality.

I am open to correction on this, but my understanding is that all of the MK3 GS450H's are SEL spec. In terms of differences, the SEL's don't so much have extra kit as uprated or higher spec kit - suspension, gear box, adaptive cruise control, etc.

Visually, the only difference seems to be that SEL's have a lip on the boot lid.

Thanks Mike, much appreciated. It seems that the electric sunroof and possibly the Levinton stereo were dropped at some stage.

I went to Lexus Bolton (from Wirral) this morning and test drove a 10 reg SEL. They were extremely personable and accommodating and I could not fault them. The car was sublime, but I was surprised that it did not seem possible to bring up a digital mph/mpk (kilometre,) ON THE DASH which makes the "k" reading not so easy when driving on the continent.

Oh well I shall have to consider seriously whether to go for it and keep it alongside my 190,000 mile 10 year old E class diesel Estate!.

Regards

John
