Hi guys

I have seen a really nice ls400, but its a cat d. The repair job is excellent..Infact you cant tell if its been damaged. It was only a minor impact, front wing, bumper and abit of the bonnet. I think its had new panels. The car looks in excellent condition, even the alloys are refurbed.

My question is would you guys buy a cat D car which has been repaired to a very high standard?

If it's cheap enough and has a new MOT that's genuine and the insurers are happy to insure it then, YES I would.

Could still have it's prior history and servicing schedule to give you some comfort too.

How much is it and what's it all about then ?

Sorry its a cat c

Only damage was wing bonnet and corner of bumper. I called the garage that did the repair. They said it didnt need to be jigged and that it was a tidy mint car. It has full service history 130000 miles. Cambelt all done. The guy paid out of his own pocket and had it repaired to a high standard

Hi Messi,

A cat D on car worth £2k can be very minor damage, On a £7k car it can be quite a lot, If it was a recent cat D then the damage was light. Check the tyres for uneven wear the panel gaps & if it drives fine. then its probably OK. Most cars when they get a few years old will have had at least a paint repair or light bump & may not have been claimed for on the insurance so not on the register.

If it looks & drives good then it probably is good., As for price a cat D should be around 30% cheaper than a non cat D.

Hi if the guy paid out of his own pocket it shouldn't be registered as a cat C. as no claim was made on it. If it is registered cat C it must have a VIC check.

It all depends on mileage condition & price if its worth it. Let us know the mileage & price & I will let you know if I would consider it or hang on for a correct car.

Sorry. Its a cat c with 130000 miles, full service history, lpg fitted since 61000 miles and it has been vic checked according to hpi report.

If you report your car as being involved in an accident to your insurance company and then not proceed with the insurance claim but repair privately your insurance company will record it as a claim and the car and will also be registered as Cat C etc if they have seen the car and deemed to write it off or quote estimation for repairs. Your No Claims Bonus could also be at stake.

How do I know this because it happened to me, some guy reversed his car into mine he wanted to go through insurance which was OK I reported it to my insurance co however he came back later said he would pay for my repairs which he did, Saga ended no!

I sometime later was looking for new insurance so did the Go compare etc chose one after a month I got an invoice from them for £50 because I hadn't told them I had made a claim for the previous year, the fact that I did not get the insurance co to pay for the repairs made no difference, if you tell your insurance company your car has been involved in an accident that is treated as a claim. I paid up and put it down to a very expensive lesson.

Back to your car I thought that had all ready been sold as its already appeared in one of the threads.

Im in a dileama now. Which one should i go for, the straight one or cat c? Both same price

Hqhaha i think ill buy the 2nd one. Its only got 99000 miles on it. Full history. Green. Looks nice aswell. Cambelt was done at 62000

I've had a cat D in the past, worked out fine.

Subject to the car being "right", if you're looking to keep it for a while, I'd certainly go for it, but barter hard, as THE big snag with repaired write offs is reselling them, so he won't be beating buyers off with a stick.

I do remember the eBay listing, and iirc, the cat C bit wasn't prominent in the ad, which I don't like to see, if I'm honest, as it's probably the most important fact about the car.
