Hi all.

Bought a IS300 runiing LPG . Bit rough round the edges, but I love it. Done 156000 miles (90,000 on gas). Intending on keepin it and doing it up. Not seen many running gas, if anyone has any questions on it I will be happy to answer.

Got a problem myself with the auto box, could do with some help. I have searched around but no luck.

If there is anyone who knows these box's their help would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

Sorry about the terrible pic.

Hello and welcome to the club, Regarding gearbox, there isn't really anything you can repair yourself on the gearbox, I'd take it to a professional garage TBH.

Thanks for the welcome and reply.

I am averaging 20 MPG mixed driving, no different to petrol. Not too bad for a 3 ltr.

Was
just lookin to see if anyone experienced similar things with their box.
When stopped at say a junction, foot on brake in D. When puling away
there is a pause of about 2-3 secconds before it moves. it revs (sort of like a slipping manual clutch) then jolts forwards. It doesnt happen all the time.

Also occaisionally
when starting from cold it doesnt want to creep forwards or backwards,
needs a lot of revs to move. If i turn off I hear a hissing / gurgling
sound from underneath for a few seconds 10-15. Then it drives normal. Weird or what.

Looked on a few forums and these boxes appear to be bomb proof. Any reccomedations for gearbox specialists in the North Wales or North West.

Thanks.

Don't know of any gear box specialists up there sorry but yeah I've driven a couple of 300's and don't remember them being hesitant at all. Maybe a 300 owner will know better.

Only 20mpg on gas? Is it working properly? lol...My best mate drives a normal 300 and gets better mpg than that, a lot of the time he gets better mpg than me in my 200 but I do like the go faster pedal a lot!

Yeah I dont drive slow either, Thought 20 MPG was good!! What does your mate get, does he drive like a granny, lol. I only got 15 MPG out of my old Impreza, it was 340 BHP though. Gave me 9 points too!!

I'm no LPG expert mate, in fact I know sod all about LPG except its supposed to give you better mpg. If your only getting 20mpg that just doesn't sound right to me especially as you can get better mpg than that from a normal 300.

The official figures for an IS300 from Lexus are 26.2 mpg combined so if it's gassed it should be higher shouldn't it?

I do drive like a grandad going to church. I get to the speed limit but am gentle in accelerating and braking. AirCon has killed me this month. Only 400 miles before the low fuel light came one. I'm gonna struggle to hit 450.

Mine is a basic 2.0l not the the 3.0l, but with LPG, I thought you should be okay 30MPG. When was it last serviced? Have you had the alignment and tracking done?

Serviced it myself last month, fluids, filters and plugs. Would never go to a stealership again. Haven't done alignment though. Deffinatly worth a try, good idea, thanks, will do that after I change the brake pads.

Think I may have sorted some of the gearbox issues though. Disconneted the Battery for an hour and went for a blast. Seems smooth through the box even on kick down now. Would still be intersted if anyone has experienced the hissing sound on a cold start.

The gearbox oil is brown, think its time to change it. Anyone done this themselves? Is there any sort of internal filter?

Had a look at the MAF sensor aswell, looks dirty. Will pick up some circuit spray and give it a clean see if that helps ecconomy.

Thanks for the responces.

Transmission fluid should be a cherry red colour if it's brown it past its use by date which could explain the problems you're having.

Filter is normally in the sump so pan off, replace filter and refit pan with the correct sealant.

Only use Toyota Type IV fluid.
