Tyre was my fault, and bulb had a bad contact.

Mine failed too at 187500 miles on........

Headlight and side light bulb and headlight aim! This time of year I rarely drive in the dark, so I should have checked the lights before the test! What a car......

Mark.

Checked out this thread with some trepidation for your plight.

Just couldn't stop chuckling after reading.

Like you say an alarming dip in reliability tho lol

Sorry not 123,000, that should have read 127,000. Not as good as Bluesman though, I admit. Must say, I've never come across a forum quite like this one. People actually out-doing each other in the reliability stakes for their motors. (and these motors are getting on a bit remember). Says something about Lexus cars.

Sorry I just read my posts back and it seems like I was a bit harsh on BMW and Merc owners

Just for the record my car is NOT bulletproof (I needed to wiggle the bulb in the holder for the MOT)

I am just as gutted as everyone else at the shock I got when I was told the news my car was terminal !!!

So sorry if I offended anyone with a 7 Series with a blown transmission (common fault you can set your watch by) (see link)

Or sorry to have offended this man whose S-Class was so nice it has broken down in Zurich (lovely part of the world)

http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w220-s-class/2044633-help-stuck-zurich-w220-s320-cdi.html

I wish my car would brake down there !!!

Just got back from the MOT with my 20year old 165,000 mile beater ,passed ok with a bit of exhaust paste and a headlight bulb .

I have to agree with previous posters ,it is so pleasing to know you have another year of joyous motoring to look forward to .

The headlight bulb failure after only 20 years is a worry though.

When I bought my second LS400 in January, it had a short MOT (3 weeks ...) and advisories at the previous MOT on slight surface corrosion on the main rear and offside rear brake pipes.

I rubbed the rust down on the pipes and painted them with Hammerite before taking the car for its MOT. It passed with no advisories and a mileage of 212,000 miles.

Nah, no offence taken. We know what we're up against in the pursuit of the "ultimate driving machine". Mine has had its transmission replaced at 80k miles and then an engine-out job at around 100k.

That said, since I've owned it, it has actually been more reliable than my IS200! Co-incidence I know, but still amusing :P

Nevertheless, kudos to the LS400. A testament to Lexus's pursuit :)
