Rc F Centre Console - Facelift Is Version?

Recommended Posts

The RC and RC F models have been launched in the states and I've been reading the various articles on it.

The interior is taken from the IS (the rest of the car is a real Frankenstein, but ho hum....) but is subtley different in its presentation and it struck me that this maybe highlights what the facelift IS might get in a year or two's time, as it addresses some of the major issues with packaging and layout. Take a look at the pic below and see how they have moved the items about on the centre console to help the placement of the cup holders.

Yes, but the location of the touch pad, the Mode dial and the cupholders are in a different position.

The mode dial is where the touch pad/remote touch is on the IS, the touch pad is closer to the driver and the cup holders are further forward, making them easier to get to for the driver and the passenger and giving the passenger an elbow rest on the reshaped cushion.

Most luxury car manufacturers are moving away from scores of buttons on the dash - just wished they had with the newer Lexus's. I still prefer the understated elegance of the GS and LS, it's a complete class above the IS, RC and NX.

The US appears to be one year ahead of us in terms of updates to the IS.

The 2014MY (2013 in real years) was exactly like the IS we have now. They have just begun to get the 2015MY (2014 in real years) which has the following changes:

1 - Centre console materials have been upgraded from the glossy black panel to the matt grey finish. Button have been made flatter and therefore look sleeker. This is basically the same as the top half of the RC console. Remote touch interface remains unchanged but the actual moving element has been concaved to allow the fingers to sit inside without slipping. Very useful for bumps in my opinion.

2 - Black glossy parts have been upgraded to the matt black material around the drive select knob.

3 - Stereo knobs + drive select knob are now polished aluminium

4 - F-Sport models have the option of choosing a Stratus grey interior.

5 - F Sport badging on the bootlid like the NX

Thank god the shiny plastic is going. That is what really cheapens the interior of the IS.

It appears they listened to the US Lexus owners. Some of them suggested a more matt finish with more resistance to oils on fingertips and voila, matt plastic with more oil resistance

I don't find the mode dial is easy to reach in the current design, have to bend my wrist back and take my eyes off the road to find the correct button behind the dial. This isn't a problem as you don't need to keep adjusting it, but if the touch pad goes there then that may be a problem.

The knob is only on versions without nav or with business nav. Premium nav comes with the remote touch interface.
