Right..

I've had my Altezza for 3 days now :D and clocked up some miles over the weekend.

Whats everyone getting out of a full tank in terms of miles? What fuel do you use?

I did about 250miles on £41 worth of 4 star. I was driving it hard from time to time so i wouldn't expect good mpg! but wondered what everyone elses gets..

Cheers,

Am.

yeah i used 4 star.

i'll have to look out for shell stations.. bit bleak in MK just BP stations everywhere!

What ron is the best for the 3S-GE engines?

cheers guys!

Guys..

How do i work out mpg ? I just get this feeling my cars guzzling the fuel too much!

£20 worth of Optimax - 119miles driving around town (Milton keynes mostly roundabouts and dual carrage ways) not being heavy on the throttle..

Can you reset the ECUs on RS200s?

TIA

Hi Colin, thanks for that.

Yes 82p/ltr

I thought it was be grizzley on fuel..

If its a simple as disconnecting the Battery for few min's then i will give it a go, unless anyone else knows different. Would i notice any difference with the cars response?

TIA! :)

Well i reset it. Only immediate change i noticed was the idle speed has dropped. Seems to idle at around 500-600rpm, so not good :( stalled 2 times

I'll see how fuel is like this week..

I though the only stuff still marked as 4 star is LRP, and you definitely don't want to put that in.

Bumpage on this thread.

I thought i would let you know of last weeks progress.

I've completed 160miles on £28.50 worth of Optimax. Whats my average MPG?

If someone could post the equation i would be greatful :)

I'm thinking i need to get the car to a specialist to get it checked over, it is guzzling the fuel

You need to know the price per litre. For example lets say it's 81.9p

To find out how many litres you put in divide the cost by price per litre

28.50/0.819 = 34.8 litres

convert this to gallons by dividing by 4.52

34.8/4.52 = 7.7 gallons

miles per gallon is total mileage / number of gallons

160/7.7 = 20.8 mpg

which for an Altezza is not good. :-(

Thanks for the quick reply Colin :)

Price per litre was 82.9p which using your formula equates to 21mpg

Like you say not good.. What could be the problem? reset the ecu which i can only say had effect on idle speed but nothing else..

Any suggestions would be great.. but looks like i'm going to have to get a specialist to check out what the problem maybe.

I normally get about 65 miles to a tenners worth of optimax , just short of 13 litres for a tenner.

But then you have an IS200, very different engine to the 'tezza..

The Altezza should give better mpg over the IS200.

Does the car seem to run fine? Has the economy always been this bad?

Check the basic things like the air filter is clean, tyres pressures are not low, the correct level of oil is in the engine (including not too much). jack the car up and make sure the wheels rotate freely. Make sure you cannot smell petrol in the engine bay.

Have you driven another Altezza, if so does your car feel down on power?

With the basic things out of the way you may need to look at spark plugs/coil packs and do a compression test on the engine.

The Car runs fine. I've owned the car for 3 weeks, and from the day i bought it's been quite thirsty for fuel. I've driven few cars out in the US (prowlers, Dodge vipers, ferrari spiders) which i thought were really bad for fuel.. but my 'tezza imo is little bit too juicy on fuel :(

I will check air filter tomorrow, tyres are fine two new rear ones fitted last week. Oil level is fine (not over or under filled) Defo no petrol smell from engine.

I've not driven another altezza apart from my own, so hard to say its down on power. Saying that i drove about 3 Is200s which were quite bit slower than my 'tezza is. One thing is the lag of power from 1,000rpm -4,000rpm to when the VVT-i kicks in is pretty big. It's like its turbocharged after 4,500rpm accelerates pretty well.

I'll have my garage check the compression on Monday.

I wonder if there are any ECU mods on the car that are messing up the fuelling?

All Toyota engines come alive after 4000 rpm, it's not vvt-i. The 3S-GE engine always gives a big kick around 4-5k rpm, that is normal.

If you get a compression check done they will also be able to see how the plugs are. Plugs should give a good indication if the engine is running correctly or not.

Are there any other Altezza owners in your area so that you can compare performance?????

I see. Well i wondered the same. I take it a pro can iron out glitches on the ecu?

If theres anyone whos local on here with altezza pm me! the only one i have seen in Milton keynes is my own :P

compression test is on the books though :)
